Has Gordon got a better offer than Arsenal? World’s top club targets Newcastle star
Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon is being chased by the best teams in the world, with Arsenal joined in hot pursuit of the England winger by Bayern Munich.
FootballTransfers exclusively revealed Arsenal’s interest in Gordon earlier this month, detailing how Mikel Arteta wants to build his team around a core of English players.
But the Gunners face a major battle for the former Everton star, with Bayern ready to offer the 25-year-old the opportunity to join England captain Harry Kane at the Allianz Arena.
Gordon ‘inspired’ by Olise’s Bayern success
Gordon’s representatives have already been in contact with Bayern and is open to hearing their pitch, according to a report from transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri.
Writing on X, he claims: “Bayern Munich have not ruled out a move for Anthony Gordon!
“The Bavarians already made contact with the player’s representatives.
“The Englishman, inspired by the success of Michael Olise, is not closing the door.”
Olise has indeed exploded in Germany, with a price tag of well over €150 million on his head amid interest from Real Madrid and Liverpool that Bayern have every intention to fend off.
Newcastle forced into summer transfers?
FCB’s approach towards Olise is similar to the one that Newcastle are taking over Gordon, who is under contract until 2030.
Tavolieri confirms: “As of now, Newcastle are not willing to consider a departure.”
But the Geordies face a potentially difficult summer in which they will be pressed into selling two or three leading names, FootballTransfers understands.
Sandro Tonali is widely expected to be one of the players leaving St James’ Park, while Gordon finds himself on a list with the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Tino Livramento as players who are also seen as candidates to depart.
Arsenal vs Bayern for Anthony Gordon
The brewing battle between Arsenal and Bayern to sign Gordon is a particularly interesting one given that it will take place between the two best clubs in the world, according to SciSports.
Bayern are the top-rated club, according to the data analytics firm, with Premier League leaders Arsenal coming in second.
Using its Career Advice tool, which ranks potential transfers based on a variety of metrics including potential development, game time, playing style and formation, the clubs are evenly matched, with a Club Fit score of 68 each.
Ultimately, this is a deal that could come down to finances: who is willing to offer Newcastle the money that will prompt them into the sale of one of their stars, and who can offer Gordon the better project to take his career to another level.
