Barcelona have gone official on their transfer plan for on-loan Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford.

Rashford is widely expected to stay at Camp Nou beyond the one-year loan agreement that is in place between Man Utd and the Spanish league leaders, yet Barca’s fragile financial position could yet block a deal.

Barcelona have a bargain buyout fee of around €30 million in the England attacker’s loan agreement and have reportedly reached an agreement with the player over personal terms, yet there president Joan Laporta is offering no guarantees that the player will be signed.

Laporta on Rashford deal

Speaking ahead of Barcelona’s presidential election on Sunday, he refused to commit the club to signing the Man Utd star, instead revealing that sporting director Deco will be trusted to make the call in the future.

“We’re very satisfied with Rashford’s performance. He’s integrated very well. He’s a very active social campaigner and has been getting involved in the foundation,” he told JijantesFC.

“Deco will decide what we’ll do at the end of the season. We can look at other options to keep him.”

If Barcelona fail to take up Rashford’s purchase clause, Man Utd are reportedly unwilling to have him back at Old Trafford and will instead look to sell him on at a fee closer to his €52.2m Estimated Transfer Value (ETV).

Haaland to Barcelona? Laporta issues stunning statement

Laporta, meanwhile, addressed claims by presidential rival Vitor Font that he has held talks over a potential Barcelona transfer for Manchester City striker Erling Haaland in the future.

“Font’s ridiculous handling of this issue is appalling,” he hit out. “Our relationship with his agent Rafaela Pimenta is excellent and she came out quickly to deny it.

“You can't make a fool of yourself like this. His representative has said it's not true. We don't like them using him for electoral purposes.”
