Maguire needs to cut wage demands for new United contract

Manchester United will only look to extend Harry Maguire’s contract if the 32-year-old agrees to lower his wages of more than €200,000 to closer to €100,000 per week.

Maguire’s current deal expires at the end of the season and, according to the i paper, senior figures are divided over whether to offer the defender a new deal despite being highly thought of at the club.

United do have an option to extend Maguire’s deal for another year but they are said to be ‘unlikely’ to go down that route, with the club determined to lower their wage bill.

No decision has been made over Maguire’s future as of yet and the England international has interest from other Premier League teams as well as sides in Italy.

Ugarte set to headline United summer departures

The same report also expands on United’s desire to sell Manuel Ugarte after his poor displays for the club, with sides in Turkey such as Galatasaray said to be interested.

United believe recouping even half of the €50 million they paid for Ugarte would be considered a success, while Casemiro and Jadon Sancho will also leave the club when their contracts expire at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, United are expecting Barcelona to permanently sign Marcus Rashford even though the Catalans are struggling to afford the €30m option in his loan.

However, the future of captain Bruno Fernandes is less clear, with talks expected between the Portuguese international’s representatives and United before the 2026 World Cup this summer.

Goretzka free transfer considered for summer

United will also be among the teams looking to sign Leon Goretzka this summer when his contract expires at Bayern Munich, according to reports in Germany.

Arsenal had considered a January deadline day move for Goretzka but the 30-year-old is keen to explore his options as a free agent and Fussballdaten state that United, the Gunners and West Ham are providing interest from the Premier League.

The likes of Atletico Madrid and Juventus are also said to be closely monitoring the situation but Turkish giants Galatasaray and Fenerbahce are hoping to lead the battle to sign the German.

United told the record-breaking cost of dream midfield signings

United’s pursuit of at least two midfielders this summer has been well publicised but they may have to break their transfer record to sign their top two targets in Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton.

According to The Guardian, Crystal Palace could demand around €75m for Wharton but Fichajes believe the England international could cost as much as €95m.

United’s current transfer record stands at €105m with the 2016 signing of Paul Pogba but they may have to eclipse that to sign Anderson, with Nottingham Forest being aware of the rising value of their talisman.

Carlos Baleba also remains a top target for United and it remains to be seen what combination of stars the Red Devils move for as they look to upgrade in the middle of the park.

United join race for Leipzig wonderkid Diomande

United are also expected to pursue a left winger this summer and RB Leipzig’s breakout star Yan Diomande is a player the club are interested in if he becomes available, according to the Manchester Evening News.

However, United will face serious competition from Europe’s top sides for the Ivorian wonderkid and Leipzig are expected to demand around €100m for the 19-year-old.

Diomande only joined Leipzig in the summer for €20m from Leganes but the winger has scored seven times and provided five assists in the Bundesliga this season as well as starring for Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The likes of Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are also expected to compete strongly to sign Diomande but United are hoping the money raised from sales can help fund a move and secure the youngster for less than his asking price.
