Andrew Robertson’s future could hold the key to Liverpool signing Virgil van Dijk’s heir, according to a report.

The Scotland left-back has been targeted for a January transfer by Tottenham, and should the Reds agree to this deal, it has been claimed that this will give them priority when it comes to signing Micky van de Ven from the London side.

Van de Ven is a player the Reds have earmarked as a potential summer signing, with Arne Slot’s side in need of central defensive cover due to the uncertainty over Ibrahima Konate’s future and Van Dijk only having a year left to run on his contract.

Spurs target Robertson

Tottenham’s interest in Robertson is well established. David Ornstein reported Spurs’ desire to sign the 31-year-old on Friday and several other well-respected sources followed.

While Liverpool have been reticent to sell at this point in the season, despite Milos Kerkez being made first choice left-back at Anfield, the Merseyside club have been given a significant incentive to green light a deal.

“If Liverpool allow Andy Robertson to leave for Spurs in January, they will have an agreement with Spurs for priority talks over Micky van de Ven in the summer,” in-the-know account Indykaila claims on X.

Liverpool have their eye on Van de Ven

Liverpool are prepared to make Van de Ven the latest member of the Dutch community at Anfield, following the likes of Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch, Jeremie Frimpong and Van Dijk to the club.

The Daily Mail reported earlier this week that the player’s refusal to extend his contract in London allied with his current form means this is an ideal opportunity for Spurs to receive a premium fee for him.

If Van de Ven is to leave Spurs, though, there is likely to be intense interest in the player and Thomas Frank’s side appear to be using the Netherlands star as leverage to force a deal for Robertson through immediately.

With Tottenham also holding an interest in Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, there are other potential twists in this transfer saga.
