Man Utd fans already love Darren Fletcher as social media clip goes viral
Manchester United interim boss Darren Fletcher has already endeared himself to the club's supporters by explaining how he wants his team to play.
The former Scotland international has been parachuted into the Man Utd hotseat following the inevitable sacking of Ruben Amorim after 14 months in charge.
The Portuguese spoke out against his immediate superiors on Sunday and, like Enzo Maresca at Chelsea, ultimately paid for it with his job. It has since been speculated that Amorim actively tried to get himself sacked and was allegedly seen laughing and joking as he left Carrington on Monday.
U18s boss Fletcher will now take interim charge of the first team, but it remains unclear for how long. Man Utd are still in the process of formulating a clear succession plan.
It is possible that the former midfielder will only get a few games, but he could also remain in the role until the end of the season. Oliver Glasner is reportedly the favourite to be appointed as the club's next permanent head coach in the summer.
Fletcher excites Man Utd fans
Naturally, with the Amorim experiment going so wrong and being the latest in a long list of missteps, some are clamouring for Man Utd to bring someone in who knows to club and understands the Red Devils' DNA.
With this in mind, it is unsurprising that a clip of Fletcher from August has now gone viral on social media. In it, the coach explained how he wants his U18s teams to play, and it has certainly sparked plenty of excitement among supporters.
🚨🎙️ | Darren Fletcher speaking after an U18s game in August:
"The fast attacks, it's proper United. I have been showing them clips of Rooney, Ronaldo, Ji-sung Park... counter-attack goals. Trying to show some of that Man United DNA."pic.twitter.com/92RTImA2ju— UtdDistrict (@UtdDistrict) January 5, 2026
"The fast attacks, it's proper United," Fletcher said. "I have been showing them clips of [Wayne] Rooney, [Cristiano] Ronaldo, Ji-sung Park - counter-attack goals. Trying to show a little bit of that Man Utd DNA."
He added: "If teams want to have a go at us and they want to try and press, we've got the ability to play around them. If they want to leave a high line against the players we've got in the final third, we can be devastating."
Fletcher is highly rated at Man Utd and understood to be very popular with his players. His U18s are currently second in the northern group of the U18 Premier League, four points off leaders Man City.
It will be interesting to see if his approach translates to senior football or if he will have to adapt his style.
