Nico Williams has been at the centre of numerous transfer rumours for more than two years, and now it has been claimed that the Athletic Club star is “determined” to make a move.

The Spain winger seemed to commit his career to the Bilbao outfit when he signed an astonishing 10-year deal with the club in July, leaving him tied to the Basque side until 2035.

His decision came in the wake of intense transfer interest. Barcelona, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Chelsea were all tracking the player and are still credited with varying degrees of interest in Nico.

Liverpool, for example, are ready to “spare no expense” in chasing the winger ahead of the January market, despite the fact that Williams’ form has cooled off significantly this season.

He has only three goals and two assists across all competitions in what has been an injury-affected start to the campaign.

The door to a deal remains ajar, though, due to Nico Williams’ release clause. This stood at a modest €58 million before he signed his new contract, and though it has risen to an estimated €100m, such a figure is not an outrageous sum to pay for such a player if his best form can be guaranteed.

Nico Williams targeting Real Madrid switch

Although interest from the Premier League remains, Nico Williams is “determined” to move to Real Madrid – yet another of his potential suitors.

This deal was simply not on in the summer, when it appeared that Vinicius Junior would sign a new contract with the Bernabeu side. With Vini’s future firmly in the air, there is scope for Xabi Alonso’s side to strengthen the left side of their attack.

Nico, who in previous years was said to prefer to move within Spain rather than going to England, has taken this decision in recognition of the fact that Barcelona will not be able to afford his transfer fee.

Barca had previously been favourites to land him due to the presence of his great friend Lamine Yamal at the club.

As hooking up with the Blaugrana is not considered a realistic prospect presently, Nico wants Real Madrid in a blockbuster deal that is likely to be tied to the fortunes of Vini Jr.
