Jamie Carragher has warned Mohamed Salah his Liverpool legacy could be affected by a mid-season move to Saudi Arabia after admitting that he does not anticipate the Egyptian being at Anfield next season.

Salah’s future has come into major doubt after his recent public criticism of the club and manager Arne Slot and there is some belief that he could facilitate an exit to the Saudi Pro League upon his return from the African Cup of Nations next month.

While Slot has insisted he does not want to lose his star man, Carragher is resigned to seeing Salah leave Liverpool in the coming months but has told the 33-year-old to wait until the summer in order to enjoy a deserved farewell at the end of the season.

“I don't see Mo Salah playing for Liverpool next season,” Carragher said on Sky Sports. “The big thing in my mind is, are we going to see Salah from now until the end of the season?

“If he's thinking of moving on, I would urge him to think again. And the reason I say that is, if Salah is to move from Liverpool now, the talk is he would go to the Saudi League.

“Liverpool in the second half of the season could get to the FA Cup final, the Champions League final. Can you imagine Salah in Saudi watching Liverpool come out in Budapest in the Champions League final?

“He deserves a guard of honour, he deserves a mosaic in the Kop. He deserves to bring his wife and kids on the pitch in his last game and actually celebrate him for what he's done as a Liverpool player. So put your differences with the manager aside for four months and get this great big send-off.”

Salah set to face Saudi Arabia approach amid latest twist in Carragher beef

Carragher’s latest comments on Salah’s situation may not prove welcome despite his well-intentions, having already come under fire for his strong reaction to the forward’s stunning interview.

Salah admitted he was ‘hurt’ by Carragher’s criticism but tensions appear to have cooled between the player and Liverpool after clear-the-air talks were held with Slot

Salah is expected to receive a significant offer from Saudi Arabia in the coming weeks after playing his final match for Liverpool before AFCON, in which he got a record-breaking assist against Brighton.

However, any talks over Salah’s future are not expected to progress until after AFCON, which is due to end on January 18th.
