Denmark boss Brian Riemer is thrilled that Napoli striker Rasmus Hojlund has joined a club where he is 'appreciated' after his nightmare stint at Manchester United.

The 22-year-old departed Old Trafford after just two years, having failed to live up to the hype following his €77.8 million (£68m, $91m) move in 2023. Hojlund, who had actually wanted to stay, was brutally forced out by Ruben Amorim after the arrival of Benjamin Sesko.

Sesko, too, has so far failed to perform up to the expected standards, leaving Man Utd scrambling for a January reinforcement for the attack. Hojlund, meanwhile, is loving life at Napoli.

He joined the reigning Serie A champions on an initial loan deal that will become permanent if they qualify for the Champions League and he plays a certain number of games. Hojlund fully expects to be a Napoli player beyond this season.

The Denmark international netted on his debut against Fiorentina, but he has not found the back of the net in the three outings since then. Despite this, Napoli are very happy to have him on board.

Denmark boss thrilled for Hojlund

Denmark head coach Brian Riemer is also thrilled that Hojlund now plays for Napoli. The 47-year-old handed the striker his first appearance of the season in the previous international break, even though he hadn't been playing for Man Utd, and he's clearly a big fan.

Speaking to Tipsbladet, Riemer revealed that he watched Hojlund's Napoli debut intently and expressed his delight that the youngster managed to leave Man Utd for the Serie A giants.

"I'm so happy that he has found a club where he now starts every time," the national team boss said. "He has been through a difficult period, there's no doubt about that, and now he is in a place where he is appreciated and is settling in. That he even scored on his debut was just great."

Hojlund is currently competing with Monaco forward Mika Biereth and Wolfsburg striker Jonas Wind for the starting spot in Denmark's national team. Ajax returnee Kasper Dolberg has been omitted from the squad for the upcoming international break due to injury.
