The 22-year-old has established himself as one of the Premier League’s standout performers since leaving boyhood club Newcastle United in 2024 and he has started each of England’s last four international fixtures alongside Declan Rice.

Anderson is now widely expected to be included in Thomas Tuchel’s favoured starting XI at the 2026 World Cup, and his form for both club and country has attracted significant attention from every elite club in the Premier League.

Reports have indicated that Anderson has been identified as Manchester United’s priority target for the January transfer window as Ruben Amorim aims to bolster his midfield ranks after failing to secure the signing of Carlos Baleba this summer.

However, the Red Devils have now received a nightmare transfer update following news of interest from both Chelsea and Man City.

The Express claim that Man City are plotting an €86m “swoop” for Anderson next year, with Pep Guardiola impressed by the England international’s development in recent months.

It’s understood that he is a “big fan” of the Nottingham Forest star and the Spaniard is reportedly eager to add him to an already impressive roster of midfielders at the Etihad Stadium.

Anderson is seen as a possible replacement for Rodri, should the Ballon d’Or winner depart for Real Madrid, and Man City would reportedly look to finalise a deal for his signature before the beginning of next summer’s World Cup.

However, The Express also claim that Chelsea are keen to tempt him to Stamford Bridge amid their continuous pursuit of the best young talents in world football.

The Blues already have a plethora of midfield options available to Enzo Maresca, but Anderson has been earmarked as a target due to his ascent to stardom over the past few months.
