New Arsenal recruit Cristhian Mosquera has already more than doubled his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) since joining the club.

The Spain international left boyhood club Valencia in late July to link up with compatriot Mikel Arteta in North London. Arsenal swooped for Mosquera after a move to RB Leipzig fell through.

The 21-year-old had just a year remaining on his Valencia contract, which meant that Arsenal managed to get him for a bargain fee of just €15 million. This was slightly above his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €13.9m.

Mosquera signed a deal until 2030 with the option for a further year in North London and made his first start for the Gunners at the weekend after two assured substitute appearances against Leeds and Liverpool.

Playing in the absence of William Saliba, Mosquera put in a superb performance against Nottingham Forest as Arsenal ran out comfortable 3-0 winners.

Mosquera's value skyrockets

Since his move to Arsenal, Mosquera's value has skyrocketed. His ETV has more than doubled this month, shooting up from €13.9m to €37.8m, and it is likely to rise even further as long as he stays in the team.

Saliba has recovered from his injury ahead of schedule and already trained before the Forest game. It remains to be seen if he will take back his place against Athletic Club in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The steep rise in Mosquera's ETV can be explained by three factors. For one, he joined one of Europe's most prestigious and biggest clubs, which will naturally ameliorate his value.

A player's ETV is also heavily influenced by contract length. Being on a 5+1-year deal is obviously going to make someone much more valuable than being on expiring terms.

However, Mosquera joined in July, and his ETV did not change immediately in August. It was only after he actually managed to get on the pitch that his jump in value was triggered due to his high-level performances.

The sample size is small - we're only four games into the season - but Mosquera could prove to be one of the most inspired pieces of business of the summer.
