Cristiano Ronaldo pushes for $153 million Man City transfer
Cristiano Ronaldo is pushing for a $153 million transfer at Al-Nassr involving Manchester City.
The Premier League side might have beaten Manchester United 3-0 on Sunday in the Premier League, but Pep Guardiola’s side face a major challenge to get back to the heights they reached when they picked up the title in 2024.
One player earmarked to be key to that challenge is Phil Foden. After a dip last term, he looked back to his best against United – but he could soon be on his way out of the Etihad Stadium.
Ronaldo, who has been given more control of the playing structure at the club since signing a new two-year deal this summer, and Al-Nassr have prepared a $153m bid for the midfielder that would make him the most expensive player from England in history, according to Fichajes.
Indeed, it would land Foden in third when it comes to the Premier League’s biggest ever sales, trailing only Alexander Isak, who moved to Liverpool from Newcastle United this summer, and Philippe Coutinho, who left the Reds for Barcelona back in 2018.
Phil Foden: Will he move to Al-Nassr?
Al-Nassr are eager to snap the Englishman up. He is seen as a young player with Champions League experience but also a leading player in for the Three Lions.
Foden has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €90.8m ($106.84m) but the Saudi Pro League side are willing to offer well above this fee in order to sign a player still coming to his peak.
Stiff resistance to the move is expected to come from City – and that makes any deal unlikely.
Foden, who is under contract at the Etihad until 2027 – is seen as an untouchable figure by manager Pep Guardiola. The Catalan does not only appreciate the 25-year-old as a player, but also what he represents to the club in terms of being a local player who has come through the academy.
Even with a bid worth $153m Man City have sent Ronaldo a clear response: Foden is not for sale.
