Football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has given updates on the biggest stories in the game, including Liverpool’s moves for Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike, as well as Chelsea pursuing a new forward.

Isak keeping Liverpool door open

Newcastle are maintaining that Alexander Isak is not for sale but Liverpool remain in active conversations to buy the Swedish striker and believe the door is open for his signing.

Romano said: “Liverpool want to try until they find a complete big wall in front of them and they can say, ‘okay, leave this conversation, leave this story’, but at the moment, Liverpool insist to try make something happen for Isak.

“It's going to be important to see what Newcastle will do in the next hours and in the next days. If it's going to be a final ‘no, no chance, forget about it’ or if it's going to be maybe a different situation. At the moment from Newcastle, they maintain their position.

“Alexander is very calm. He knows that Newcastle want to keep him. He knows very well about that. He knows that Newcastle want to offer a really important contract. So, that's also a topic.

“At the same time, he knows that Liverpool would offer, not just important money, but also an ambitious project, too. So Isak is not closing doors to this possibility and Liverpool were never going to make club contact without the feeling that the player could be open to making a move to join them this summer. So it is in Newcastle’s hands.”

Liverpool eye Ekitike as Isak alternative

Liverpool will move for Hugo Ekitike if they cannot sign Isak, although Newcastle remain in talks to sign the Eintracht Frankfurt striker.

Romano said “If Liverpool can get Isak, they will go for Isak. If Liverpool can't get Isak, for sure an option to consider is, and a strong option, is Ekitike.

“When Newcastle had the first bid rejected for Ekitike, close to €78m, Liverpool also spoke to people involved in the deal to be informed on the situation and to make contact club to club.

“Newcastle also remain in contact but to say today that ‘Ekitike is close to joining Newcastle’? At the moment, not yet because this is not the case. It's not advanced yet, it’s ongoing for sure since last week and but it is not close to being completed.”

Chelsea consider Garnacho transfer

Chelsea could still sign another forward this summer despite bringing in the likes of Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens and Joao Pedro already, with Alejandro Garnacho on their list.

Romano said: “The name of Garnacho remains one of the options available eventually this summer for Chelsea because he has to leave Manchester United.

“He wants to stay in Premier League and Chelsea are aware of this situation but as of they still not submitting any official bid or starting any talk, it’s just an internal discussion about options and Garnacho is one of them.

“I can confirm the intention of Chelsea to add one more offensive player this summer also because the feeling of Chelsea is that one or two players up front could still leave the club in this summer transfer window.”

Jackson and Nkunku could force Chelsea signing

Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku are two players who have interest emerging in them that could leave to Chelsea targeting another forward.

Romano said: “Jackson is attracting a lot of interest in England and there was some interest from Milan but, from what I'm hearing for Milan, this is almost impossible financially and Milan are focusing on different players at this stage.

“This story for Jackson and Milan has gone quiet but there are more clubs around Europe interested in the striker. He could be one to watch because he's not a player Chelsea want to sell but if they receive a good proposal there is a chance for him to go.

“Then there is Nkunku who wants to play more, he remains an option for Bayern and for more clubs around Europe. This why Chelsea are not closing doors to one more offensive addition in this summer transfer window.”

Diaz facing uncertain future

Luis Diaz is open to leaving Liverpool this summer, with Bayern Munich preparing another bid and Barcelona speaking to the player’s agents, although he could also stay and renew his contract at Anfield.

Romano said: “Diaz would like to try a new chapter but this depends on Liverpool, who have to decide what they want to do with Diaz. It is also a financial topic how much they want for Diaz because, at the moment, they keep rejecting proposals and they are not indicating a specific price to the clubs.

“Let me say in case Diaz ends up staying at Liverpool, there is a sense that they could offer him a new contract. That could be a possibility not to have the player a bit sad and disappointed about the situation.

“But at the same time everything is still open with Bayern trying again with Barca calling the agents and will Diaz open to an exit this summer.”
