Viktor Gyokeres: Arsenal handed transfer update as 'perfect match' revealed

Viktor Gyokeres has been told to reject a move to Arsenal in favour of joining Real Madrid this summer.
The Sweden international is expected to leave Sporting CP for a fee of €65 million before the start of the 2025-26 campaign, and Arsenal are pushing to finalise an agreement for his signature amid their pursuit of a new centre forward.
The Gunners have identified Gyokeres as a key target following his goalscoring exploits for Sporting and they are eager to bolster Mikel Arteta’s squad with the addition of the 26-year-old.
Gyokeres has scored 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting CP since his arrival from Coventry City, and Arsenal view him as a player capable of firing them to their first Premier League title since 2004.
However, Netherlands legend Wesley Sneijder believes Gyokeres should join his former club Real Madrid instead.
Viktor Gyokeres to Real Madrid?
Sneijder told Metro: “You have to pick a team which works for your playing style. At the moment, maybe Real [should consider signing him].
“If it allows Kylian Mbappe to move back to the left then maybe it’s a perfect match.”

Mbappe has been deployed as a centre forward since joining Real Madrid on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, but he could be shifted back onto the left flank if Los Blancos sign Gyokeres and offload Vinicius Junior.
However, Xabi Alonso is currently prioritising the pursuits of Benfica left-back Alvaro Carreras and Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller after confirming the arrivals of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen.
In addition to Arsenal, Gyokeres is also being chased by both Chelsea and Manchester United, although the former are set to announce the signing of Liam Delap very shortly>, while the latter aren’t able to offer European football after a dismal 2024-25 campaign.
As a result, Arsenal are seen as the frontrunners to land Gyokeres this summer, but they are likely to opt against signing the Sporting CP forward if they agree a deal for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.
