Manchester United are reportedly the only club in contact with Eintracht Frankfurt over a summer move for Hugo Ekitike.

The France U21 international has been heavily linked with both Chelsea and Liverpool in recent months, with the former pushing to finalise an agreement despite the recent arrival of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town.

Reports indicate that Enzo Maresca’s side may have even agreed personal terms with Ekitike as they look to add the 22-year-old to a forward line that already includes Nicolas Jackson, Marc Guiu and Delap.

Ekitike scored 22 goals in 48 appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt last season, following his permanent move from Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea believe he is well suited to bolstering their options in attack.

However, Ekitike has a €100 million release clause in his current contract at Eintracht Frankfurt, and the Bundesliga side are unwilling to sanction a sale unless this figure is matched.

Hugo Ekitike to Man Utd?

Man Utd are also interested in signing Ekitike and they are, in fact, the only club in contact with Eintracht Frankfurt as things stand.

That is according to German outlet BILD, who claim that Man Utd’s head of recruitment Christopher Vivell is close friends with Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krosche, which may give them an unlikely edge over Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Ekitike is reportedly open to an Old Trafford switch, despite the Red Devils’ failure to qualify for Europe, and he recently admitted that he supported the club as a child.

Victor Osimhen is also wanted by Man Utd, however the Nigerian has reportedly set his sights on joining a club competing in next season’s Champions League, which would rule Ruben Amorim’s side out of contention.

Viktor Gyokeres is a key target too, although the Sporting CP star has snubbed the chance to move to Old Trafford in favour of pushing for an Arsenal switch.
