Chelsea are in “pole position” to sign Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike, despite the imminent arrival of Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap.

Ekitike, 22, has been heavily linked with a summer exit amid significant interest from Chelsea and Liverpool, and the former are now pushing to finalise a deal before the start of the 2025 Club World Cup.

The aforementioned Delap is set to be confirmed as Chelsea’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window after he completes his medical on Monday, however the Blues are still chasing Ekitike’s signature.

The Blues are eager to bolster the attacking options at Enzo Maresca’s disposal ahead of their first Champions League campaign since the 2022-23 season, and Ekitike has been identified as a key target after scoring 22 goals in 48 appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt last year.

Widespread reports suggest that Maresca’s side are leading the race to sign Ekitike, while Chelsea journalist Simon Phillips has even claimed that Ektike has “agreed personal terms” with the Stamford Bridge outfit ahead of a move this summer.

In addition, Eintracht Frankfurt insider Adler News has reported that Chelsea want to finalise a deal before their first game of the Club World Cup against LAFC on 16 June.

However, Chelsea are currently unwilling to match Ekitike’s €100 million price tag and they are now locked in negotiations with Eintracht Frankfurt in a bid to lower his potential transfer fee.

If the Blues are able to sign Ekitike in addition to Delap, then Nicolas Jackson’s future at the club will be in doubt, as per The Guardian.

FootballTransfers understands that Manchester United are monitoring the Senegal international’s situation at Stamford Bridge as they look to land a new striker this summer.

Hugo Ekitike omitted from France U21 squad

Ekitike was a surprise omission from France’s squad for the U21 European Championship, which starts later this month, and many Chelsea fans believe he has missed out on selection as he will be competing for the Blues at the Club World Cup instead.

However, The Mirror have revealed that he is currently suffering with a back injury and this is the reason for his exclusion.
