Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber has confirmed the Gunners will be “busy” this summer as they bid to end a five-year trophy drought.

The north London giants endured yet another trophyless season in 2024-25 and they are set to make several significant signings during the summer transfer window in order to bolster the first-team squad available to Mikel Arteta.

Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi will become the club’s first signing of the summer when his move to the Emirates Stadium is formally announced, as exclusively revealed by FootballTransfers, while Arsenal also want to sign a goalkeeper, a central defender, a left winger and a centre forward.

However, top targets Joan Garcia, Dean Huijsen and Nico Williams are off the market for the former three positions, and Arsenal are currently engaged in a transfer battle with both RB Leipzig and Sporting CP as they pursue Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have identified Aston Villa superstar Ollie Watkins as an alternative target after failing to finalise a deal during the January transfer window.

Jurrien Timber confirms Arsenal transfer plan

Although Arsenal are yet to officially announce any new arrivals, Timber has revealed that his side will secure the signatures of several high-profile players this summer.

“It will definitely be a busy one for Arsenal,” the Netherlands international admitted during an appearance on the Matchday podcast (via Football.London).

“I think we will get a lot of players, because we had so many injuries last season. At one point we almost had no players left. So for the depth of the players they definitely want to get players.”

Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Magalhaes were among the Arsenal players to suffer fairly significant injuries last season, and Arteta is eager to improve the depth of options at his disposal as he looks to guide the Gunners to their first Premier League title since 2004.
