Manchester City are interested in signing Barcelona attacker Dani Olmo this summer, according to Spanish media.

The 27-year-old has had a tumultuous past 12 months. Olmo was on top of the world when he played a crucial role in Spain's Euro 2024 triumph and secured a dream return to Barcelona off the back of his performances in Germany.

However, things quickly turned sour as the Blaugrana struggled to register him for LaLiga, which eventually devolved into a fierce legal battle and required Spain's National Sports Council to rule on the matter.

Olmo has been able to suit up for Barcelona, although LaLiga continue to contest his eligibility. Additionally, the attacking midfielder has had to deal with persistent fitness problems.

When he has been on the pitch, Olmo has generally done fairly well. He has notched 11 goals in 36 appearances and provided six assists.

Man City want Olmo

Given that Olmo has only been at Barcelona for a year, it comes as a bombshell news that the usually reliable Matteo Moretto of Relevo reports that Man City are pursuing a summer move for the playmaker.

Pep Guardiola and sporting director Hugo Viana are scouring the market for a replacement for Kevin de Bruyne, and the ex-Barcelona manager is said to 'dream' of signing Olmo.

Guardiola's ideal target was initially Florian Wirtz, but it is Bayern Munich or bust for the Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid this summer. So far, the chances of a move materialising look slim as Barcelona's current stance is that Olmo is not for sale.

However, the report acknowledges that the Blaugrana could be tempted to sell if City decide to flaunt their financial muscle. Olmo, for his part, did everything in his power to return to Barcelona, so he is not expected to push for a move to England.

Still, it seems that this story could become one to watch should Man City decide to get serious about their interest in the 27-year-old.
