Confirmed: Matheus Cunha 'close' to €80m Man Utd move

Manchester United are now close to reaching a verbal agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha as they look to win the race for his signature this summer.
The Red Devils have reportedly agreed to trigger the €74 million release clause included in Cunha’s current contract at Molineux, although they will be forced to pay an additional €6m in add-ons.
That is according to GOAL reporter Valentin Furlan, who claims that Man Utd are close to reaching a verbal agreement for Cunha, with the “final steps on personal terms underway.”
Man Utd could pay a total of €80m to sign Cunha, if add-on clauses are met, and Arsenal’s reported attempt to hijack the deal has seemingly failed.
Cunha has scored 17 goals and provided six assists in 34 appearances for Wolves so far this season, and he is expected to be deployed as an attacking midfielder in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system at Old Trafford next year.
In April, following news that Man Utd were in talks to sign the Brazilian, Amorim was asked about his side’s pursuit of Cunha.
“I could say this is a conversation for the end of the season, but I have an idea that is clear because we need to do things early,” Amorim told reporters. “I will not say anything about Matheus because if I say one time, I will have to comment on every situation. I am focused on this season, and even the next few games could change our plan for next season.”
He continued: “What I feel is there are a lot of players that want to play for our club. If you look at our club at the moment with all the problems, changing coach, it looks a little bit of a problem.
“But we have a clear idea, and that’s the easiest part to explain for a player. It’s Manchester United and every player wants to play for Manchester United.”

Who will Man Utd sign this summer?
In addition to Cunha, Man Utd are also hoping to sign Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap this summer, although they will face significant competition from a number of top Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Chelsea.
A new goalkeeper is high on Amorim’s wish-list too, with Espanyol’s Joan Garcia being considered, while Man Utd are also reportedly targeting a new central midfielder and a new centre-back.
