Florian Wirtz transfer gets green light after Man City 'agreement'

Bayern Munich are officially negotiating for Florian Wirtz with Bayer Leverkusen, according to German media.
A blockbuster summer transfer of the 21-year-old is seemingly becoming increasingly concrete. Speculation surrounding Wirtz has been rampant, with sensational reports earlier on Monday suggesting that Leverkusen had 'agreed' a deal with Man City.
However, if the German press is to be believed, Wirtz has always made it clear that it is Bayern or bust for him this summer, with the player and his family keen to stay in familiar surroundings before eventually heading abroad.
Honorary Bayern president Uli Hoeness has an excellent relationship with Wirtz's father and agent, and the Munich outfit already have a broad agreement with the wonderkid's camp on personal terms.
Crucially, however, Bayern were not yet in negotiations with Leverkusen. According to Sky Germany, this has now changed, and a potential transfer appears to be heating up.
Bayern open Wirtz talks
The report states that Bayern have opened formal talks with Leverkusen and that the newly-minted Bundesliga champions are trying to force through a quick deal ahead of the Club World Cup.
Leverkusen, for their part, remain reluctant to do business with their rivals and have made it clear that they will not sell for a fee below €150 million, which would obliterate Harry Kane's record as the most expensive Bundesliga purchase ever.

According to Sport1, Leverkusen's controversial backers, the Bayer pharmaceuticals company, have agreed to greenlight a transfer of Wirtz should a fee in that €150m ballpark be offered.
The attacking midfielder is still under contract until 2027, so Leverkusen are not under pressure to cash in on him right now. Wirtz has reportedly 'promised' Bayern that he will join them next summer should a move this year fall through, with the Munich side confident that they would be able to push his price below €100m in 2026.
