Liam Delap sets transfer DEADLINE as Man Utd face Chelsea battle

Ipswich Town forward Liam Delap is reportedly expected to make a transfer decision this week amid significant interest from Chelsea and Manchester United.
The 22-year-old enjoyed an eye-catching debut season at Portman Road, scoring 12 goals in 37 Premier League appearances for the newly-promoted side, and he is set to earn a high-profile summer move as a result.
Delap is available for a measly fee of €35 million (£30m) due to a relegation release clause included in his contract with The Tractor Boys, and he has already held discussions with a number of English top flight teams ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
However, the Englishman wants to finalise his next destination as soon as possible in order to focus on helping England win the U21 European Championship for the second consecutive time.
That is according to Ben Jacobs, who revealed that Delap is “expected” to make a transfer decision this week before linking up with his England U21 team-mates.
The Ipswich star remains Man Utd’s priority centre forward target, amid their pursuit of a replacement for Rasmus Hojlund, although Chelsea, Everton and Newcastle United have also held talks with the 22-year-old.
Delap is reportedly targeting an inclusion in England’s senior squad for the 2026 World Cup, and he is looking for guarantees over game time in order to improve his chances of being selected by Thomas Tuchel next summer.
Man Utd’s failure to secure European football may impact their ability to finalise an agreement with Delap, but they believe their pitch “was strong,” as per Jacobs, while the Ipswich striker is reportedly eager to return to the north west of England.

Liam Delap to leave Ipswich
News of Delap’s imminent transfer decision comes after Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna all but confirmed the Englishman’s Ipswich departure.
Speaking ahead of Ipswich’s final Premier League match of the season, McKenna told reporters: “Liam's looking at his options for next year, which I think he's entitled to do, and we support him with that. So, yes, we've given him the permission to do that this week.
“It's a very important decision for his future. Of course, there's a lot of interest and rightly so. So that's been part of his week, he's been having some of those conversations.
“It looks, I think more likely than not, that he'll move on this summer. He has interest from pretty much every club in the league. I don't think there's many clubs in the world who wouldn't want to have him. So I think it's more likely than not that he'll move on.”
