Fabrizio Romano Transfer News: Garnacho U-TURN, Wirtz signing CLOSE, De Bruyne LATEST

Football transfer news reporter Fabrizio Romano has delivered the latest news from the market, with updates at Manchester United, Liverpool, Napoli and more.
Wirtz to Liverpool ‘very advanced’
Liverpool are moving quickly to secure the signing of Florian Wirtz in a blockbuster deal from Bayer Leverkusen.
Romano has explained the background to the move and why the Germany international playmaker has picked the Anfield club ahead of Bayern Munich.
“Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen are closing in on an agreement for Florian Wirtz. He’s expected to become a new Liverpool player in the next hours. Liverpool want to be very soon, with the ‘here we go’ expected soon,” Romano told his YouTube channel.
“The conversation is expected to be very fast. Wirtz has given his initial green light to Liverpool in the recent hours. New contacts have taken place in the last 48 hours, very positive contacts involving the director Richard Hughes, who did a huge job on this story. Behind the scenes, Liverpool were always trying.
“Wirtz really appreciated this approach. Liverpool told him that if he gave them his green light, they would be very fast with Leverkusen. It’s not going to be a two- or three-month saga. Now the discussion is very advanced.
“Let’s wait for the formal steps, but it’s very advanced.
“Bayern have been working hard on this deal for months but they’ve never been close to Leverkusen, who were always intent on selling the player abroad.”

Ten Hag waits on Leverkusen
Another issue that needs tidied up at Bayer Leverkusen is the subject of their next head coach. Former Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag wants it to be him.
Romano explained the Dutchman’s position: “Ten Hag has given his complete availability to go to Bayer Leverkusen on a two-year contract. He’s waiting on Bayer to make a final decision on the coach, but he’s giving priority to Bayer Leverkusen over a return to Ajax.
“Ajax have been waiting for Erik ten Hag, who is now waiting on the Bayer Leverkusen job as a replacement for Xabi Alonso.”
Garnacho’s situation ‘different’ at Man Utd
Romano has explained that there is an increasingly strong chance of Alejandro Garnacho leaving Manchester United following the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham.
The Argentine was unhappy at starting the game on the bench, with his brother positing criticism of Amorim on social media to fuel suggestions that the attacker could finally leave after strong January rumours of an exit.
“The clear indication I’m getting is that there is more and more concrete chance of seeing Alejandro Garnacho leaving Manchester United this summer,” Romano says, indicating there has been a change in the club’s thinking since January.
“Garnacho is also not happy with the current situation. What he said after the final is very clear. And remember the quotes from Ruben Amorim after the final were really strong.
“In January there were possibilities, with Chelsea and Napoli interested in the player. But nothing happened. This summer can be different. He can leave Man Utd with a good proposal for the player and the club.
“The expectation is for Garnacho to leave Manchester United. Financially it could be a good deal for the club as they need to raise funds on the market and to add more players. We know they want to sign Matheus Cunha and sign a No.10 and a striker. So they will be busy, but without Champions League money, it’s going to be difficult for Man Utd without sales.
“Garnacho’s exit is something likely and something we expect to happen this summer.”

De Bruyne deal soon
Kevin De Bruyne will leave Manchester City at the end of his contract in June and will soon make a decision over his next club, Romano says.
“A decision from De Bruyne is expected in the next few days. He’s available as a free agent, leaving Manchester City,” Romano explained.
“Remember, Napoli made a very important proposal to him, a very ambitious proposal for their project. Chicago Fire from MLS remain there to push to the end to become the third-best paid player in MLS history after David Beckham and Lionel Messi, so let’s see what happens there.
“But we expect De Bruyne to be in the news in the next days.”
