Fabrizio Romano has delivered the latest football transfer news, with the reporter giving updates on Chelsea’s pursuit of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, a centre-back Arsenal are being invited to bid for and the biggest deal of the summer so far.

Romano outlined where talks between Chelsea and Dewsbury-Hall presently stand, with the Stamford Bridge club seeking to reach an agreement with a player who is a favourite of new manager Enzo Maresca.

He stressed, however, this is not a deal being pushed by the Italian.

“The conversations between Chelsea and Leicester City for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall are still ongoing,” Romano said on YouTube. “They’re still talking and trying to find a way. Chelsea were able to make the deal with Brighton collapse with one call. Now he’s delaying because he wants to understand what will happen with Chelsea. He’s already given the green light and wants the move.

“Let me say, he’ll always be respectful with Leicester, but he’s open to making the move.

“Chelsea want to include players in the deal, so let’s see if they can find the right structure.

“This is not a signing wanted by Enzo Maresca in the sense that he went to the board or owners and says: ‘Please sign that player.’ This idea started from Chelsea’s recruitment team but they also got the green light for the player.”

Jackson ‘super happy’ at Chelsea as Isak deal ‘impossible’

Romano also dismissed any claims that Nico Jackson could leave the Blues as part of a swap deal, either for Dewsbury-Hall or, more pertinently, for Newcastle forward Alexander Isak.

Indeed, Chelsea’s hopes of landing the Sweden international were branded “impossible” by the transfer specialist.

“First of all, for Chelsea, Nico Jackson is a very important player, he’s a player they trust. Chelsea believe his value is going to be crazy in the future. They think he’ll go very well under Enzo Maresca. Chelsea absolutely trust Nico Jackson. All quiet for him. On the player’s side, he’s super happy at Chelsea,” Romano confirmed before addressing the Isak issue.

“Alexander Isak and Chelsea. Nothing is happening. It’s absolutely impossible. We know Chelsea appreciate the player but Newcastle always wanted to keep him and I’m told Eddie Howe was especially clear with Newcastle’s board and owners: he didn’t want Isak to leave the club. Important to say, the only way would have been with a Premier League record fee. Chelsea were never going to pay that money.”

Newcastle ‘here we go!’

One transfer that is going to take place with the Magpies, meanwhile, is Yankuba Minteh’s move to Brighton.

With a total package worth €39 million, it will be the biggest deal of the summer to date in the Premier League, eclipsing Brentford’s €33m move to sign Igor Thiago from Club Brugge.

“Yankuba Minteh will leave Newcastle for Brighton and will become a new player for the manager Fabian Hurzeler and so it’s a here we go!” Romano says.

“The deal is in place. It will be £30m [€35m] plus add-ons. The total package will be about £33m [39m].

“Minteh also said yes to Brighton after Everton trying, after Lyon gave him the best proposal. He wanted to play in the Premier League. He’s agreed a five-year contract.

“It's important for Newcastle for Financial Fair Play. He was on loan at Feyenoord and never had the chance to wear the shirt of Newcastle on the pitch and now he’s leaving the club and joining Brighton.”

Liverpool told to make ‘crazy’ Gordon bid

Liverpool have been told they will have to bid “crazy” money if they are to sign winger Anthony Gordon from Newcastle.

“They’re having conversations with Liverpool with Anthony Gordon,” Romano said.

“The only way to active the discussion in a significant way is if Newcastle drop the price. Liverpool like the player but they’re not going to pay what Newcastle want for Anthony Gordon. The feeling is that this story is unlikely. The only way is a crazy proposal from Liverpool.”

Romano added that Howe’s side are seeking to make incoming transfers, too.

“Newcastle had contact with Milan because they really like Malick Thiaw. They are not advancing on this one. Let’s see if they return,” he says. “They’ll also sign a goalkeeper in July, with James Trafford of Burnley as favourite.”

Arsenal and Chelsea invited to make Calafiori bids

Premier League clubs are being invited to make bids for Bologna’s Euro 2024 hero Riccardo Calafiori, with Chelsea and Arsenal, in particular, expected to launch a move for the left-sided centre-back.

Italy’s exit from Euro 2024 at the hands of Switzerland on Saturday is expected to act as a catalyst for a deal.

“Bologna will focus on the situation of Riccardo Calafiori,” Romano confirmed.

“In May and June, they were hoping he would stay at the club and they would keep the player.

“He always gave his preference for Juventus and that remains the case, he wants to play for Thiago Motta. But the relationship between Bologna and Juve is complicated because of the Thiago Motta situation. Bologna are making life difficult, despite the agreement between the player and Juventus.

“They’re now waiting on proposals for Calafiori. Bologna expect Premier League clubs to jump into the race.

“Arsenal are keeping a close eye on the situation. It’s not a negotiation yet. And then Chelsea, who are looking for a left-footed defender. It could be at centre-back or left-back but for sure they want one of those players.

“Let’s see if another club enters the race. We heard rumours about Real Madrid, but they’re focused on Leny Yoro.”
