Mykhailo Mudryk, Ukraine, Chelsea

Chelsea knocked back several serious approaches for Mykhailo Mudryk in January, it has been revealed.

The Ukraine star has struggled to live up to the hype at Stamford Bridge since his big-money move in January 2023. Signed for a whopping €70 million with the deal potentially rising to €100m, expectations were high when Mudryk arrived.

So far, however, Mudryk has shown little improvement, which will be a major worry to Chelsea, whose entire transfer model under Todd Boehly is supposed to be about developing young players. To be sure, the 23-year-old posted better numbers in 2023/24 than in his first half-season in west London, but the signs are not particularly promising.

Mudryk also didn't really have much of an impact at Euro 2024 as Ukraine crashed out despite accumulating four points, which would likely have been enough to secure progression had they not finished bottom of their crazy group.

Nevertheless, the club hierarchy at Chelsea is determined to keep the faith in him and they showed this in January by rejecting a host of offers for the winger, according to The Telegraph's Matt Law.

Chelsea rebuff Mudryk approaches

At the time, it was already confirmed that Bayern Munich had briefly considered the Ukrainian as an option after Kingsley Coman went down with injury. However, it seems that they were far from the only side keen on Mudryk.

Speaking on the London is Blue podcast, Law said: "Chelsea actually had some inquiries from very big teams back in January to try and take him on loan. And I think one team were even interested in signing permanently and they [Chelsea] just knocked it all back."

"They weren't interested. They were very committed to him. I think there's a feeling within the club that [Enzo] Maresca's style will suit him and that Maresca will look to use his strengths and what he's good at."
