Five big clubs who will change managers this summer

The summer of 2024 will see a big turnover of coaches around Europe, particularly at the top clubs.

There are a handful of super clubs who will be hiring new managers before the 2024-25 season begins.

FootballTransfers looks at the five biggest jobs that will have vacancies this summer.

Jurgen Klopp (Liverpool)

Jurgen Klopp announced in January that he will step down as Liverpool manager at the end of the 2023-24 season.

The German manager remains in charge until the current campaign ends before leaving Anfield after eight-and-a-half years at the helm.

Klopp, 56, was appointed as Liverpool head coach back in October 2015, replacing Brendan Rodgers in the Anfield dugout.

He has won eight trophies during his tenure with the Reds, including the Premier League and Champions League.

Thomas Tuchel (Bayern Munich)

It is also official that Thomas Tuchel will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

Tuchel was only appointed in March 2023 but has struggled ever since. He limped to the Bundesliga title last season after Borussia Dortmund collapsed on the final day.

This season Bayern lost their Bundesliga crown for the first time in 11 years as Bayer Leverkusen raced to the title unbeaten.

Tuchel has fallen out with a number of players and it became inevitable that he could not continue past this season.

Max Allegri (Juventus)

This one is not official yet, but it is widely expected that Max Allegri will finally leave Juventus after a disastrous second spell at the club.

The Italian enjoyed a brilliant first spell with the Bianconeri from 2014 to 2019, winning five straight Scudetti and reaching two Champions League finals.

However, he has produced shocking results and performances since returning in 2021 and has yet to win a trophy, although he is in the Coppa Italia final.

His contract expires in 2025 and the Italian media expects Allegri to depart once the season ends. Thiago Motta is favourite to replace him after his excellent job at Bologna.

Erik ten Hag (Man Utd)

This one is not official yet, either, but Erik ten Hag is likely to be sacked by new Man Utd part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe at the end of the season.

Ten Hag joined Man Utd in the summer of 2022 and enjoyed a decent first season as he took the club back into the Champions League, won the League Cup and reached the FA Cup final.

However, the 2023-24 campaign has been a total disaster for Ten Hag. United have lost 12 of their 34 Premier League games and have a +1 goal difference.

They need a miracle to finish in the Champions League places, as they are 10 points behind fourth and fifth position with six games to go.

United went out of the League Cup early but worst of all were humiliated in the Champions League group stages.

Despite being drawn in one of the weaker groups together with Galatasaray and Copenhagen, they finished bottom of the pool as the Danes and Bayern Munich progressed.

Stefano Pioli (Milan)

It is unanimously reported among Italian journalists that AC Milan will sack Stefano Pioli at the end of the season after another trophyless campaign.

Pioli led the Rossoneri to the 2021-22 Scudetto but has now gone two years without a title as he failed once again to launch a title challenge this term.

Milan are looking at a number of foreign coaches as possible replacements for Pioli, including Julen Lopetegui, Xavi, Sergio Conceicao and even perhaps Thomas Tuchel.
