Pep Guardiola, in particular, is a big fan of the Brazil international - his versatility and tenacity. The Spaniard also likes Lucas Paqueta but the ongoing off-the-field issues involving the West Ham man means a move is unlikely.

Guimaraes is renowned for his ability to control the tempo of the game, break up opposition attacks, and contribute offensively, with goals and assists.

Will Bruno Guimaraes leave Newcastle?

As previously reported, the 26-year-old is likely to leave St James’ Park at the end of the season, in a bid to find a club playing Champions League football. He has a strong ambition to play for Barcelona or Real Madrid but it looks likely that such a move would materilise this time around. Newcastle will listen to offers from both Spanish clubs, but for any other side, they must meet the £100m release clause in full. Paris Saint-Germain remain keen, while a move to Chelsea or Liverpool for Guimaraes is seen as unlikely at this stage.

After Newcastle’s 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest, Guimaraes spoke to Sky Sports about his future.

He replied: “Sometimes people speak a lot about me. I just speak a lot about football. I’m very happy here, and I like how the fans think of me here.

“I enjoy my time here a lot. I have never felt so loved. The fans have been unbelievable with me and my family. When I get the shirt I try to play for them. I don’t know (how long I’ll be here), but I hope this can keep going for much longer.”
