Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah faces questions over his future ahead of the January transfer window, with continued reports that the Saudi Pro League is targeting the Egypt international for a move.

Along with Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, Salah is regarded as one of the players most craved by the Saudis and would be seen as the jewel in their crown if he were to join a league that has exploded over the course of the last year.

The 31-year-old was strongly linked with a move towards the end of the summer transfer window, with Al-Ittihad having a substantial bid approaching €200 million rejected.

Though the prospect of a deal in January is slim, rumours are building once again over his plans given that his contract is up in 2025.

Liverpool ask for €230m for Salah

Liverpool have put a price on Salah’s head that, if matched, could allow him to leave Anfield after more than six wildly successful seasons at the club, Fichajes reports.

The Reds have yet to open formal contract talks with the player, who is likely to be sold in the summer if no new deal is reached. The financial reality for Liverpool is that they cannot afford to lose such an asset as a free agent at the end of his current agreement in 2025.

With that in mind, Jurgen Klopp’s side are ready to accept a bid of €230m (£200m). This figure would surpass the current world transfer record, which has stood since PSG signed Neymar from Barcelona in 2017 for €222m.

Given Salah’s age and contract status, it amounts to a huge potential windfall for the Merseyside club.

Salah is said to be considering the prospect of trying a new challenge in his career, while a move to Saudi could see his wage significantly enhanced, despite already being the best-paid player in Liverpool’s history.
