Arsenal are close to formally announcing the sale of Gabriel Martinelli to Al-Hilal for a club-record fee of €70 million after he successfully completed his medical with the Saudi Pro League side.

The Brazil international was linked with a move away from Mikel Arteta’s side throughout the summer window and after he rejected the chance to join Galatasaray, Al-Hilal soon emerged as the frontrunners to secure his signature.

The Saudi Arabian side have already announced the signings of fellow Premier League stars Ollie Watkins and Crysencio Summerville so far this summer, and Martinelli is now set to follow suit.

The 25-year-old has completed his medical with Al-Hilal, as confirmed by Arsenal journalist Chris Wheatley, and he will formally be unveiled as their latest addition shortly.

Once his move to Saudi Arabia is officially confirmed, Martinelli will become the most expensive player to ever leave Arsenal, breaking the record currently held by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who joined Liverpool for €38m back in 2017.

Martinelli shared minutes with Leandro Trossard last season and while Arsenal were unable to finalise a deal for Vinicius Junior, Morgan Rogers or late summer target Malick Fofana, the Brazilian has still been permitted to leave the club.

Summer signing Christos Tzolis and Eberechi Eze are expected to compete for the left wing berth at Arsenal this season, while Noni Madueke may also be used in that position amid competition with Bukayo Saka on the right flank.

Martinelli will become the final player to leave Arsenal this summer, following the departures of Trossard, Jakub Kiwior, Gabriel Jesus, Fabio Vieira, Christian Norgaard, Karl Hein, Reiss Nelson, Ethan Nwaneri (loan) and Tommy Setford (loan).

The Brazil winger, who moved to the Emirates Stadium for a measly €7.1m in 2019, scored 62 goals in 278 games for the Gunners, winning three trophies, including the Premier League last season.

However, he netted just once in the English top flight as Arsenal secured their first league title since 2004 and a sale has been permitted in order to balance the books following the signings of Bruno Guimaraes, Ezri Konsa, Piero Hincapie and the aforementioned Tzolis.
