Over the course of the 2021/22 season, Mohamed Salah’s future had gradually become a concern for those in charge at Liverpool. The Egyptian’s current deal runs until the summer of 2023, but negotiations over a new one were not advancing.

Finally, though, there appears to have been a breakthrough and Salah could put pen to paper in the very near future, according to the Daily Mirror.

Salah had wanted £500,000 per week in order to move into the Cristiano Ronaldo level pay bracket, which led him to turn down an offer worth £400,000 per week. Now, though, the Daily Mirror report that the 29-year-old has had “a change of heart” and will accept lower terms than he had initially wanted.

While there is still some work to do, this is good news for Liverpool fans as the two parties appear closer than ever to renewing their vows, with the new contract potentially running until 2026.

Peace of mind for Klopp is Salah renews now

As Jurgen Klopp told the media when discussing the issue earlier this month: "We cannot do much more. It is Mo's decision. It is all fine from my point of view. Nothing happened further, no signing or rejection. We just have to wait, there's no rush."

Although the coach has insisted then and throughout the campaign that the player’s contract situation hasn’t been a distraction, he’ll still be glad to have this matter resolved as the Reds look to fight on multiple fronts during the business end of the season.

They have already lifted the League Cup and are still alive in the Champions League and FA Cup, as well as in the Premier League title race. They’ll face Manchester City at the Etihad on April 10th in the league, trailing their rivals by just one point. Having Salah’s future resolved by then will make preparations for these crunch games much smoother.
