Liverpool set timescale for blockbuster €145m Bradley Barcola transfer

Bradley Barcola will undergo a medical with Liverpool today as his blockbuster move from Paris Saint-Germain nears completion, according to reports in France.

RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins understands the 23-year-old is en route to Merseyside ahead of signing a five-year contract with Andoni Iraola’s side.

The news comes after Liverpool agreed a deal with French giants PSG to sign Barcola for an initial €124million (£106m) rising to €145m (£124m) with add-ons.

Liverpool have made Barcola their top target as they look to strengthen their attack before the transfer window closes in England next Tuesday (1 September).

The France international has just two years left on his contract with PSG and does not want to extend his terms with the Champions League holders.

Premier League champions Arsenal were also linked with Barcola but the forward has his heart set on a switch to Anfield.

Barcola was left out of the PSG squad ahead of their Ligue 1 opener against Rennes last Sunday (23 August), amid Liverpool’s interest in his services.

He was also omitted from the PSG travelling party which lost 1-0 at Lens in the French Super Cup on 16 August.

French publication L’Equipe claimed the Ligue 1 giants made those decisions as they did not want to scupper a proposed deal with Liverpool.

Barcola is regarded as one of the best wingers in the world

Barcola has developed a reputation as one of the best wingers in the world since joining PSG from Lyon for €45m (£38.4m) in August 2023.

Known for his blistering pace, he has won 12 honours with PSG including back-to-back Champions League titles in 2025 and 2026.

However, Barcola has struggled to dislodge Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in PSG’s electric front three.

PSG have also signed wingers Maghnes Akliouche and Mika Godts this summer, adding further competition for a place in Luis Enrique’s starting XI.

Barcola has also received 28 caps for France and represented them at the 2026 World Cup, registering three goals and one assist in North America.

Liverpool also keen on Minteh and Sarr

Liverpool are believed to be prioritising two new wingers before the transfer window closes in the Premier League next week.

The Reds have had two offers rejected by Brighton and Hove Albion for Yankuba Minteh, while they had an enquiry rebuffed by Crystal Palace for Ismaila Sarr.

Unlike the left-sided Barcola, Minteh and Sarr primarily operate on the right, meaning they were considered as potential replacements for Mohamed Salah.

Salah called time on his legendary nine-year spell with Liverpool at the end of last season, and has since joined Turkish outfit Trabzonspor on a free transfer.

Liverpool have so far backed new manager Iraola with the permanent signings of Victor Munoz and Ifeanyi Ndukwe, and the loan acquisition of Ronald Araujo.

Defender Jeremy Jacquet has also moved to Anfield in a pre-arranged deal that was negotiated before Iraola’s appointment in June.

Gakpo may leave upon Barcola signing

One player who could be on his way out of Liverpool is Cody Gakpo as talks are currently ongoing with Manchester City over a surprise deal.

The 27-year-old had options to stay at Liverpool or join Tottenham Hotspur but he has made Man City his preferred destination, according to David Ornstein.

Gakpo joined Liverpool in January 2023 and has registered 51 goals and 24 assists in 182 games for Liverpool, winning the Premier League title in 2024-25.
