Chiellini: Ronaldo didn’t act like a superstar

Giorgio Chiellini has hailed Cristiano Ronaldo for his humbleness during their time together at Juventus, saying that the Portuguese legend didn’t behave like a superstar.

Ronaldo spent three years at Juventus from 2018 to 2021, during which time he scored 101 goals and won two Scudetti, a Coppa Italia, two Italian Super Cups, two Serie A Footballer of the Year trophies and a Capocannoniere prize.

Despite all his success during his career, Ronaldo’s supreme confidence has sometimes been labelled as arrogance.

However, Chiellini insists that Cristiano was very humble and respectful during his time in Turin.

What did Chiellini say about Ronaldo?

"We were prepared for the media hype that would come with everything he did from when he arrived," Chiellini told Italian rapper Fedez's Wild Moss podcast.

"But once he became part of the group, he behaved normally and well with everybody.

"He didn't act like a superstar. He's a walking multinational company himself, but you could joke with him.

“Humanly speaking, dealing with someone like him is easier than it looks. He is simply a human being who is dedicated to his work. He is a champion and will remain in history, but he is a normal person."

"In fact, his life is harder than ours. He's richer, it's true, but if he wants to take a walk or go downtown, he can't do it.”

Chiellini was appearing on the podcast together with his Juventus and Italy teammate Leonardo Bonucci.

The pair played a pivotal role as centre back partners in Italy’s Euro 2020 success last summer.

Bonucci recalled the celebrations after beating hosts England in the final at Wembley after penalties.

"After the win we celebrated all night," Bonucci said. "Once we arrived in Rome, we couldn't resist. [Nicolo] Barella was hung over the next day.

"In the end you realise that you're ready for certain situation even if you didn't know it. Even during the tournament we enjoyed some barbecues and some drinks together."
