Kyogo Furuhashi: Celtic legend gets SURPRISE transfer offer to exit Rennes nightmare

Kyogo Furuhashi might only have left Celtic to join Rennes in January, but the Japan international star could already be on his way out of the Ligue 1 side.
The 30-year-old featured only six times for the French club, totalling only 120 minutes on the field, during which he managed neither a goal nor an assist.
With multiple changes of head coach last season, Rennes has not proven to be a stable environment for Kyogo, who was signed for €10 million.
Sky Sports reports that he could be on his way back to the UK, with Birmingham City ready to make an offer for him.
It is claimed that the Championship side have made contact with Rennes to study the possibility of a deal, with the Breton side seeking to recover their losses for a player who had looked so at home in Glasgow.
Why did Celtic sell Kyogo?
Celtic’s decision to sell Kyogo came as something of a shock, but Sky Sports’ News Anthony Joseph has revealed why both the club and player elected to agree a transfer.
He said: “Celtic saw it as good business considering the circumstances.
“The 30-year-old is desperate to play at the World Cup next year and had been told by his international that he needed to join one of Europe's top five league to be in with a better chance of being selected for Japan.”
A potential pitfall to Kyogo’s move to Birmingham is a long-standing shoulder injury that he suffers from.
Sky reports that he will need surgery on the problem that could see him sidelined for four months. Celtic had pencilled this in for the period at the end of the season when the title was wrapped up, yet the unexpected opportunity to sell him to Rennes was preferred.
Now Kyogo stands at a major crossroads in his career as his time in France appears over.
