Timothee Chalamet made an unexpected but special request to the French Football League (LFP) during a television appearance on Tuesday.

Born in New York to an American mother and a French father, the 28-year-old actor, who is famous for his roles in Dune and Wonka, continues to keep a close eye on the fortunes of Saint-Etienne in Ligue 2.

Chalamet expressed his love for the club during an appearance on TMC show ‘Quotidien’, on which he was promoting Dune 2, one of 2024's blockbuster movies, along with his co-stars from the film, who looked somewhat confused by his passion for football, particularly after he broke out into the club song.

The actor has admitted that it can be tricky following the club from afar, making a plea with the LFP to be quicker with their highlights packages.

“I have a request for the Ligue 2 BKT YouTube channel. They wait for all the matches to end before showing the highlights, and I don’t know why!” he said. “Show me the highlights!

“I’m in Los Angeles and I’m waiting for them! Allez les Verts!”

What football team does Timothée Chalamet support?

Chalamet has made no secret that Saint-Etienne is the football team that he supports. Les Verts play in France’s second tier, Ligue 2.

Prior to the Dune 2 premiere in Paris on Monday, 12 February, Saint-Etienne scarves were handed out to the audience, much to his delight.

He inherited his passion for the club from his French father, who works in New York for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), having previously been the New York correspondent for Le Parisien.

During his childhood, Chalamet spent his summers in the small village of Le Chambon-sur-Lignon, which is 50 kilometres south of Saint-Etienne.

Chalamet is also a big NBA fan and is a lifelong supporter of the New York Knicks.
