Barcelona Transfer News Today: €100m bid made as injury casts doubt on long-awaited deal
Barcelona’s January transfer window is set to be shaped by a frustrating injury problem that could well block a deal the club has long awaited, while the Camp Nou side have been subject to a €100 million approach and have a new target in their sights.
Ter Stegen injury hits Barcelona January plans
Marc-Andre ter Stegen is a figure that Barca have wanted to clear from their books since the beginning of the season owing to his big wages and the fact that he has fallen to third choice in the pecking order behind summer arrival Joan Garcia and Polish veteran Wojciech Szczesny.
He spent much of the first half of the season injured but returned to play one Copa del Rey match, and Barca were eyeing up the possibility of a January move.
Girona had been interested in the Germany international, who would have made a loan move to the Blaugrana’s La Liga rivals.
That deal has been thrown into doubt by an injury that Ter Stegen has suffered ahead of Barcelona’s Spanish Super Cup clash against Athletic Club, Mundo Deportivo reports.
He has left the training camp in Saudi Arabia and has travelled for additional tests to check the severity of the problem, which is unspecified in its nature.
It promises to be a huge personal blow to the keeper, who had hoped to make a loan move that would have allowed him game time to try to force his way into Germany’s World Cup squad.
The 33-year-old has only played 10 times since the beginning of the 2024/25 season, having been dogged by two long-term concerns. He ruptured a tendon in his knee in September 2024, which saw him sidelined for nearly eight months, while a back injury this term kept him out for the first 15 La Liga matches.
Ter Stegen is not the only injury blow for Barcelona ahead of the clash against Athletic; Lamine Yamal missed training due to a “general feeling of unwellness” and is doubtful for the match.
Al-Hilal launch €100m Raphinha bid
Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal have launched a €100 million bid to sign Raphinha from Barcelona, Fichajes reports.
The deal has been structured in the form of an €80m upfront payment for the winger followed by €20m in bonus payments.
The Brazilian would act as the long-term replacement for Neymar, who departed for Santos a year ago.
It is claimed that the Riyadh club are making an “all-out offensive” for the 29-year-old winger and want him to become the new icon of their squad.
Raphinha has been offered a “stratospheric” contract as Al-Hilal try to force Barcelona to sell after the Catalan side fended off interest in the player last summer.
According to the report, there is a gentleman’s agreement in place that will allow the former Leeds winger to depart if an irresistible offer is made.
Barcelona target defender after Lamine Yamal masterclass
Barcelona are tempted to raid rivals Espanyol for left-back Carlos Romero after his ‘flawless’ performance against Lamine Yamal, AS reports.
They were left impressed by the 24-year-old following the recent clash between the sides after he silenced the Spain winger and also caused them problems going the other way, nearly creating one goal and coming close to scoring another.
Romero is on loan at Espanyol from Villarreal and any move would not be expected until the summer.
With a release clause of €45m, Barcelona are likely to shy away from a deal but certainly have the player on their radar.
