Vinicius Junior: Unexpected twist changes everything for Real Madrid star
Vinicius Junior’s future at Real Madrid has all changed thanks to a remarkable turn of events that could shift the course of the Brazil star’s career entirely.
Vini Jr has been locked in a contract dispute with Los Blancos for months, with the rift between the winger and club seemingly only getting wider due to the arrival of Xabi Alonso on the bench.
The new Real Madrid boss has upset the 25-year-old by downgrading his status at the club, regularly replacing him and publicly frustrating the former Flamengo star by substituting him during El Clasico.
While this has been developing, there have been persistent rumours that Vini Jr could be on his way to the Saudi Pro League for a record transfer fee and lucrative contract.
But Fichajes reports that there are signs of a surprise U-turn in the stance of Real Madrid, who The Transfers Podcast revealed were frustrated with the antics of their forward.
Vinicius Junior is currently in negotiations over a one-year contract extension that would see him tied to the Bernabeu club until 2028. This would guarantee his place at the club for another year.
While the player ideally wants a longer deal, this stopgap agreement would buy time for all parties.
It is claimed that no decision on this is imminent, but it still represents a seismic shift in the story.
Real Madrid will not re-sign Vini Jr at all costs
Real Madrid remain unwilling to meet Vini Jr’s wage demands. The Brazilian is asking for €25 million per season net, pushing him towards parity with Kylian Mbappe. The Frenchman has become the club’s poster boy in a development that has only served to frustrate the Brazilian.
But Los Blancos are unwilling to bend on this point, which caused friction between the two parties and put a halt to contract talks. These are expected to begin again in early 2026.
Real Madrid see Vini Jr as a key pillar for the future of their team while the player still wants to remain at the Spanish giants despite his recent issues.
The issue will not be resolved quickly, but this does seem to be a positive step towards a renewal that has, until now, looked unlikely.
