Barcelona were chasing a right-back in the summer transfer window, and ended up signing Hector Bellerin from Arsenal after his contract was terminated.

However, they had other plans, namely, the hope of signing Cesar Azpilicueta from Chelsea, but the Spaniard committed his future to Chelsea and refused a move.

Other than that, Juan Foyth from Villarreal was also linked to the club, but Barcelona were outpriced in his pursuit and a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Thomas Meunier didn’t materialize either.

Another player they were looking at was Vanderson, the Monaco full-back who they wanted, according to Barcelona-based paper Sport.

Barcelona interested in Vanderson

There’s interest in him from various clubs, including Manchester United, who are also looking to improve at right-back as well to provide competition to Diogo Dalot.

Clubs have been put off by Monaco’s asking price – which is reportedly as high as €60 million – and that is stopping sides from making a move.

Manchester United have Aaron Wan-Bissaka on their side, but Erik ten Hag is not convinced by his offensive capabilities, hence why their new search for a right-back.

Barcelona meanwhile, have Bellerin and Sergi Roberto but both their contracts expire at the end of the season, and that will mean they may have to search for a new player at the end of the season.

Vanderson is highly-rated in France – he’s also only 21 and has a bright future in the game, with expectation that he could be one of Europe’s finest in the coming years.

He only moved to Monaco earlier this year from Brazilian club Gremio, and has made an immediate impact, hence the interest in him in recent months.

Barcelona are admirers of his pace and energy he brings to the side, and it is one of the reasons they are eager to bring him to the club in the coming season, but will have to work their way around their finances.
