Lamine Yamal has admitted that he wants Barcelona to complete the signing of Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez before the end of the summer transfer window.

Hansi Flick’s side are expected to bring a new centre forward to Camp Nou this summer following the departure of Robert Lewandowski upon the expiration of his contract, and Alvarez has been earmarked as their dream signing.

Chelsea forward Joao Pedro was heavily linked with a move following the conclusion of the 2025-26 season, but rumours of a move for the Brazilian have died down and he is now expected to remain at Stamford Bridge for the foreseeable future.

Atletico Madrid are desperate to retain Alvarez this summer and widespread rumours have stated they have no intention of sanctioning a sale. In fact, it has been reported that Atleti have lodged a formal complaint to FIFA against Barcelona over their continued pursuit of the 26-year-old, whose current contract isn’t due to expire until 2030

However, Alvarez has informed Atletico Madrid of his desire to leave the club before the summer window closes on 1 September and it’s understood that he is eager to complete a move to Barcelona, despite previous interest from Arsenal.

The Blaugrana are expected to intensify their bid to sign Alvarez following his participation at the 2026 World Cup with Argentina, despite the fact it’s likely to cost around €150 million to secure his signature, and Yamal has now admitted that he would like for a deal to be agreed.

Lamine Yamal responds to Julian Alvarez transfer speculation

Yamal has previously endorsed Barcelona’s pursuit of Alvarez and he has once again reiterated his desire for the club to sign the Argentina striker this summer.

When asked about Barca’s interest in the 26-year-old, Yamal told Mundo Deportivo: “Everyone knows he's a top player, the kind everyone wants to play with. I've already said it: we're open to welcoming him, and if he comes, we'll all be very happy.

“I think he's a great fit for Barca's style. I have no idea what the situation is, but I hope so.”

Alvarez scored 20 goals in 49 games across all competitions for Atletico Madrid last season, including 10 in the Champions League, and he would become Barcelona’s latest attacking addition if he moves to Camp Nou, with Anthony Gordon confirmed as the club’s first summer signing and personal terms fully agreed with Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi.
