The last match that Ansu Fati played was on 5th November 2020 against Real Betis, at which point he had six goals and five assists from 14 matches for club and country that term. The teenager had started the 2020/21 season in scintillating form, until he suffered the devastating torn meniscus in his left knee. The 18-year-old was initially expected to miss four months, but he still hasn’t returned to action after multiple surgeries.

Finally, there is light at the end of the tunnel for Ansu Fati as he is back in first-team training at Barcelona. The youngster rejoined Ronald Koeman’s squad on the training pitches on 24th August and has continued his journey towards full fitness during this international break.

Now, thoughts turn to Barcelona’s fixture list, as Ansu Fati could return this September. Barcelona’s next two matches promise to be especially demanding games in a physical sense, as they visit Sevilla on 11th September and as they host Bayern Munich on 14th September.

But, then they take on Granada on Monday 20th September at the Camp Nou. That could be the perfect match for the forward to make his comeback, as he’ll have had almost a full month of training with the first team and this is also a match where Barcelona will expect to win fairly comfortably, meaning the 18-year-old could be reintroduced in undemanding circumstances in the second half, with his team already up on the scoreboard.

Granada have been a very strong team in LaLiga for two years in a row, but coach Diego Martinez has departed and so too has their intense style of play. Under Robert Moreno, Granada play at a much slower pace and this is another reason why this fixture could be the best one for Ansu Fati to return.

If he isn’t back by then, Barcelona’s next few fixtures are against Cadiz (away, on 23rd September), Levante (home, on 26th September) and Benfica (away, 29th September).
