Canada star Alphonso Davies close to Bayern comeback after serious injury
Alphonso Davies has provided a promising update on his long-awaited return from injury.
The Bayern Munich star has spent over seven months on the sidelines since tearing his ACL during an international match between Canada and the United States in March.
He had to undergo surgery and missed the final portion of last season as well as the start of the 2025/26 campaign for club and country.
Different players such as Konrad Laimer and Raphael Guerreiro have deputised at left-back for Bayern, but Davies is ready to return and reclaim his place, even if a return date hasn't been set in stone.
"The hardest part of rehab is now over for me," Davies told FC Bayern TV. "I'm looking forward to rejoining the team and playing the sport I love."
"I’m running and training well. I just need to put a bit more muscle mass on my right leg.
"When the doctors told me after the injury how long it might take, I thought, "Oh wow, this is going to be a long journey.'
"The process is more difficult mentally than physically. Not knowing how long you'll be out and whether you'll be able to do certain things—that's tough.
"Sometimes the body says, 'I don't want to do this anymore.' Then you have to be mentally strong."
Bayern have still performed well in Davies' absence as they have won every fixture so far this campaign across the Supercup, Bundesliga and Champions League.
Davies will undoubtedly be key to Canada's fortunes at the 2026 World Cup as his country hosts alongside the United States and Mexico.
Though he will have to prove his fitness over the next few months, he remains one of Canada's best players and is certain to feature next summer.
