If Bayern Munich head coach Hansi Flick had his way, the Bundesliga leaders would be turning out with three present Chelsea stars and one Barcelona regular in their ranks.

Flick admits that Bayern were in the market for Callum Hudson-Odoi, Kai Havertz and Timo Werner.

At the time, only Hudson-Odoi was on the books of the Stamford Bridge club, who spent big to secure Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen and Werner from RB Leipzig.

Flick also added that he wanted to sign Sergino Dest, who moved to Barcelona from Ajax last summer.

“It is always said that Hudson-Odoi and Dest were my desired players, but they were our desired players,” he told Sky Deutschland.

“We decided that we wanted to add players for the wide areas and that is what we did. Havertz, Werner and Sane were mentioned, I would have loved to have all three, but we all decided on Sane. He’s a player who makes a difference.”

Will Flick leave Bayern?

Flick, meanwhile, has had a difficult relationship with sporting director Hasan Salihamizic over the club’s failure to secure their leading targets and they were unable to get any of the three desired deals over the line.

Indeed, the coach’s decision even to speak out over the missed opportunities could be interpreted as a dig at the hierarchy as he continues to be linked with the soon-to-be-vacant Germany post.

Bayern have been insistent that they will not allow Flick to depart his post, going as far as to say that they would be “crazy” to let him go.

Flick, who has been in charge of Bayern for little more than a year, has enjoyed prodigious success at the club, leading them to a clean sweep of titles during his spell in charge, including the 2020 Champions League.
