Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea are in a transfer battle for Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana, and there could be a big price tag involved for the French defender.

Fofana is eager to play in the World Cup this year after impressing since his return to the Leicester squad from a long-term injury in March this year.

He has also done well for them in pre-season, and the two clubs are interested in buying Fofana from Leicester, believing they can get the best of his potential.

Chelsea have identified him as a primary target for the defence having missed out on Jules Kounde but there is a high price set on the Frenchman.

Leicester set big asking price for Fofana

Leicester are looking to get a fee of around £80 to £85 million for the defender, but Chelsea are hoping to get it lowered by including a few players in a deal for him.

They will face competition from Paris Saint-Germain, who, like Chelsea, also wish to strengthen their defence ahead of the new season.

For much of the summer, the French champions have chased Inter’s Milan Skriniar, but have been unable to find a breakthrough, and are now shifting their focus to the Leicester man.

Fofana is eager to breakthrough the France squad and hopes to play in the World Cup in Qatar this winter, which will influence his decision in the transfer window.

There is likely to be a better chance of him doing well at Chelsea, seeing as he knows the league well and would be working under a great defensive coach like Thomas Tuchel.

However, the steep asking price set by the Foxes could put Chelsea off and that may invite PSG to make their move and tempt Fofana away.

Fofana has been at Leicester since 2020 and impressed in his time in the Premier League, despite the long-term injury keeping him out for close to seven months.
