‘It’s best for the team’ – Is Sergio Ramos’ career at the top over after Spain snub?

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos’ season went from bad to worse on Monday morning when Spain national team coach Luis Enrique revealed that the country’s captain had been dropped from his squad.
Although Ramos featured briefly in Spain’s games against Greece and Kosovo in March, the Madrid central defender has played in just one game for his club since then.
And that lack of game time, more than anything, is apparently what has cost Ramos his place in the Spain national team he once captained.

“I’d like to send a message to Sergio Ramos, our captain, who is not on the list as he has not been able to compete since January in the right condition, or even train with the group,” said Enrique in a press conference on Monday afternoon.
“I told him by phone last night, it was difficult and tough, but it’s best for the team.”
Does this mean Ramos is finished at Madrid?
Whether or not Ramos had genuine hopes of playing for Spain this summer, his omission from the squad will undoubtedly add to the doubts his current club reportedly already have in his physical condition.
The 35-year-old’s contract with the Spanish giants is set to expire this summer and reports in Spain have suggested that any potential extension depends on whether Ramos and his employers will be willing to reach a compromise.
Ramos, apparently, wants another long-term deal, while Madrid are apparently only willing to offer the senior defender a one-year deal. As such, Ramos has been heavily linked with a move away from the club and could potentially end up at Paris Saint-Germain or Manchester United next season.
However, both clubs may now be reconsidering any potential deal for Ramos if the player is severely struggling to stay fit for club and now country.
