The report adds that Rashford has made it clear that he desperately wants to make the move and is willing to make a big effort - presumably financial sacrifices on his salary - in order to get the deal done.

Nico Williams makes Rashford deal likelier

The news that Nico Williams has agreed a new contract with Athletic Bilbao makes Rashford's move to Barcelona more likely.

Williams had been Barcelona's top winger target this summer.

With Williams tied to Athletic now, Rashford has become the number one option on Barca's winger shortlist along with Liverpool's Luis Diaz, who will be far more expensive in terms of transfer fee.

The difficult part of the Rashford talks is his salary.

Rashford is on €18 million a year at Old Trafford, which Barca simply cannot afford. Thus, United must either subsidise Rashford's wages if this turns out to be a loan deal, or the attacker must cut his salary.

Nicolo Schira reported recently that Barcelona have already offered Man Utd a loan with the option to buy.

The 27-year-old Rashford joined Aston Villa on loan in January until the end of the season with a reported option to make the deal permanent for around €47.5 million.

However, Villa decided against making the move permanent and he has now returned to United.

The 27-year-old has immediately gone on the market as his Man Utd career is over.

He was placed on the market initially in January after the controversial interview with Henry Winter before Christmas.

The attacker admitted that he was “ready for a new challenge” and he was subsequently exiled from the squad before joining Villa.

Rashford impressed at Villa at the start of his loan, earning him a recall to the England national team squad.

In total he managed two goals and four assists in all competitions for Villa.

Rashford has made 426 appearances and scored 138 goals at Manchester United.

He has been capped 62 times by England, scoring 17 goals.
