Benjamin Sesko agrees contract to sign for Man Utd
Benjamin Sesko has agreed contract terms with Manchester United as the Red Devils move ahead of Newcastle in the race to sign the RB Leipzig star.
The last 24-48 hours have been extremely eventful in the battle between Man Utd and Newcastle for Leipzig striker Sesko.
First of all, Newcastle made an improved offer for Sesko - with reports clocking it from between €80-90 million - having had an initial bid rejected last week.
It was initially reported following this second bid that Sesko was now likely to join Newcastle.
Man Utd move ahead of Newcastle
Then, on Tuesday afternoon, Man Utd responded with an €85m bid of their own as confirmed by David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano. Florian Plettenberg says that this offer has not yet been accepted.
And on Wednesday moning, Nicolo Schira now says that Man Utd have moved ahead of Newcastle in the race to sign Sesko.
Schira says that Sesko has agreed terms with United for a contract until 2031, and that the Red Devils have made a higher offer than Newcastle.
The Italian transfer journalist adds that Man Utd Head of Recruitment Christopher Vivell has played a key role in turning the tide.
Schira adds that Newcastle had been in advanced talks for Sesko but United are now well placed to complete the transfer.
Man Utd and Newcastle have been in a two-horse race for the Leipzig striker since July.
Newcastle see the Slovenian is seen as a replacement for Alexander Isak, who has requested to leave and is the subject of a potential British record move to Liverpool.
Man Utd also want Sesko to be their new number nine for the new season.
Sesko, who was a target for Arsenal before they signed Viktor Gyokeres, scored an impressive 21 goals in 45 games in all competitions this past season.
Sesko scored 18 goals in 42 games for his club in 2024-25 and went to Euro 2024 with Slovenia.
He has 16 goals in 41 games for Slovenia.
He will leave Leipzig this summer if the club receives a suitable offer.
