Onana to make SHOCK return to Inter Milan?
Andre Onana has been linked with a shock return to Inter Milan but Fabrizio Romano says there is no truth in the reports.
The Sun reported this week that Inter Milan were considerin bringing back the Cameroonian to San Siro.
Inter's current number one, Yann Sommer, turns 37 this year and the Nerazzurri will soon need a long-term replacement.
Given Onana is available for transfer, it has been reported they could look to re-sign the goalkeeper they sold to Man Utd in 2023.
Onana to return to Inter?
But Romano has shot down these reports.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said that the reason he did not play in the opening game of Man Utd's season against Arsenal was because Ruben Amorim wanted to wait until he had fully recovered from his recent injury.
Onana accepted this decision not to play him with no problems and it did not push him to look for a transfer.
Romano says there has been no contact from Inter and the last clubs to make a serious approach for the goalkeeper was way back at the end of May and beginning of June from Saudi Arabia.
Should a serious offer arrive from anywhere, there is a possibility Onana could leave after two generally dismal seasons at United.
Selling Onana will not be easy this summer, though.
United bought the Cameroonian for a fee of around €55 million from Inter.
The amortised cost remaining on his contract is around €33m. This means that United must sell him for at least this amount to avoid a capital loss on their accounts.
United simply cannot accept a transfer fee of a lower amount, also because it will have implications with meeting the Premier League's PSR requirements.
Big things were expected of the Cameroonian, who had enjoyed an outstanding Champions League season with the Nerazzurri in 2022-23, playing a key role in their run to the final.
He kept more clean sheets than anyone in the tournament, including five in the knockout rounds, as Inter narrowly and unluckily lost 1-0 to Man City in the showpiece in June. He was also heralded as the best goalkeeper in the world with the ball at his feet.
However, Onana endured an error-prone season in 2023-24, with United having their worst defensive record and most goals conceded in decades.
He made a string of mistakes, in particular in the Champions League group stage elimination in games against Galatasaray, Copenhagen and Bayern Munich.
Last season Onana improved a touch earlier in the campaign but he reverted to his first season's form in 2025 as United went trophyless and finished in 15th.
