Man Utd make Onana transfer decision as asking price revealed for in-demand goalkeeper
Manchester United have revealed the price they would sell Andre Onana for this summer after receiving interest in the under-fire goalkeeper, although he is likely to remain at Old Trafford going into the new season.
Onana had a difficult campaign filled with errors and inconsistency, leading to speculation that United could look to replace him this summer just two years after his €50 million transfer from Inter.
Mail Sport has claimed that Onana was subject to an approach from Monaco last month but the French side backed away from negotiations after United quoted an asking price of £30m (€35m) for the 29-year-old.
Monaco are understood to still be monitoring the situation despite being unwilling to meet United’s demands, while Saudi Pro League newcomers SC Neom had also considered a deal before signing another goalkeeper.
Onana is said to be keen on staying at United and he is likely to be granted his wish, with Ruben Amorim and goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital believed to be ‘happy’ with the Cameroonian despite his displays.
United had been linked with goalkeepers such as Emi Martinez and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen but the position is not thought to be of a high priority for Amorim, giving Onana a chance for redemption in the upcoming campaign.
United accept Onana stay despite being open to goalkeeper’s exit
United conceded 54 goals in their 38 Premier League games last season, with Onana having a save percentage of 69% and keeping nine clean sheets – all stats around the average and median percentile.
With three years remaining on his contract, United know they would require a significant fee to ensure they are not declaring a huge loss on Onana if they sold him, giving the club little choice but to stand by their number one.
United could look to sign a backup goalkeeper to compete with Onana but they are prioritising moves for at least one additional forward, with a midfielder and defender also all ahead of a shotstopper on their list.
While Amorim is content at keeping hold of Onana, almost every player in his squad is considered for sale and available for the right price as United look to boost their transfer kitty to continue to strengthen their side.
