Tottenham agree Marmoush deal as truth revealed over 'complete nonsense' Man City transfer

Tottenham have agreed terms to sign Omar Marmoush and complete a double raid on Manchester City after certain reports over the structure of the deal described as ‘complete nonsense’.

The Athletic have confirmed that Marmoush is set to undergo a medical with Spurs after a loan deal was agreed with City, containing an obligation to buy for £50 million (€59.4m), plus £10m (€11.7m) in add-ons.

Marmoush will pen a four-year contract with Spurs, with the option for a fifth, having seen the club also sign his City teammate Savinho this week for an initial €87m, rising to €99.3m.

City have parted ways with Marmoush just 18 months after he signed for €75m, however, contrary to some speculation, the 27-year-old’s former club Eintracht Frankfurt are not due a sell-on clause as part of the move to Spurs.

Some reports had claimed that the deals for both players were structured in a way that would see City avoid paying part of the fee for Marmoush to Frankfurt but this has been dismissed as ‘complete nonsense’ by Sky Sport Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg.

“Eintracht received their desired €75m guaranteed fee at the time, plus an additional €5m in bonuses,” Plettenberg wrote on social media. “There were also very few instalments, meaning all payment obligations to Frankfurt have been fulfilled.

“Reports claiming that Man City are setting Marmoush’s price in a certain way to avoid a sell-on payment to Frankfurt are complete nonsense.”

Marmoush will become Tottenham’s eighth signing of the summer and will see the club send potentially €170m to Man City if all add-ons are met for both the Egyptian and Savinho as Roberto De Zerbi continues to splash the cash.

Only Chelsea have spent more money than Spurs so far this summer, with the North London side desperate to bounce back from a disappointing season last year as well as a poor 3-0 loss to Brentford in their opening game of the new campaign.

De Zerbi has been desperate to add more firepower to his squad, having already strengthened the defence with the signings of Jan Paul van Hecke, Marco Senesi and Andrew Robertson, as well as the midfield with the €207m outlay on Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali.

It remains to be seen if Tottenham conduct any more incoming business before the transfer window closes on 1 September, with the focus now likely to be on outgoings.
