Man Utd Transfer News Today: Bid expected for midfield star, Rashford future becomes clear
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Manchester United transfer news on Sunday 5 July, including fresh updates on Andrey Santos, Ayyoub Bouaddi, Alex Scott and Marcus Rashford.
Man Utd eye Chelsea’s Santos for midfield revamp
Man Utd have developed an interest in Chelsea ace Andrey Santos as they continue their push to strengthen their midfield, according to The Guardian.
Widespread reports understand the Red Devils want to sign up to two midfielders this summer - irrespective of Ederson’s imminent arrival from Serie A side Atalanta.
And now the Guardian claims United are preparing to make a bid for Brazil international Santos, who Chelsea reportedly value at €58.3million (£50m), after missing out on Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes.
BBC Sport reported earlier in the week that Chelsea are not actively looking to sell Santos but they could be convinced to do so if a sizeable offer arrives.
Red Devils receive official update in Bouaddi chase
Lille president Olivier Letang believes there are “very few clubs” who can afford Ayyoub Bouaddi after denying claims the Ligue 1 club are seeking a fee between €80m and €100m (£68.5m to £85.7m).
Sky Sports understands United are monitoring developments regarding Bouaddi, who has enhanced his burgeoning reputation at this summer’s World Cup with Morocco.
However, Letang has denied claims Lille have already set an asking price for Bouaddi, suggesting they will factor in the recent transfers involving Anderson and Sandro Tonali before coming up with a valuation.
In an interview with Eurosport, Letang said: “How to answer this question... I spoke, mentioned Bouaddi, [and] gave a figure? No, never. You have to look at his level. [There are] many players like Anderson or Tonali who are much older (23 and 26 respectively) but with no room for progress, so you have an idea of the value of Ayyoub, who has a unique profile at only 18 years old.”
Carrick’s side given hands-off warning over Scott
Bournemouth have reiterated they have no intention of selling Alex Scott this summer, according to talkSPORT reporter Ben Jacobs.
The Athletic understands United are firm admirers of Scott, who played a key role in helping Bournemouth qualify for next season’s Europa League by finishing sixth in the Premier League last term.
However, Jacobs understands the Old Trafford club have now been given a firm hands-off warning by Bournemouth, who want Scott to sign a new contract.
The news comes after BBC Sport claimed earlier this week United had made an enquiry for Scott, only to be told by the Cherries that the €93m-rated (£80m) midfielder is not for sale.
Rashford won’t rush decision over Man Utd future
England star Marcus Rashford will not make a decision on his United future until after the World Cup, according to transfers reporter Fabrizio Romano.
Rashford was keen to join Barcelona on a permanent basis following a successful loan spell last season, but the La Liga club did not trigger their €30m (£26m) option to buy the 28-year-old.
And now Romano understands Rashford will not entertain any other proposals until after the World Cup, with the forward preparing to help England face Mexico in their blockbuster last-16 tie on Monday.
In a new YouTube video, Romano said: “Rashford spoke ahead of England's game against Mexico and made it clear that if anybody wanted a decision from him on a transfer, they had to make it happen before the World Cup. During the World Cup he is not going to entertain any negotiations. He wants to focus on the pitch.”
