The Chelsea rebuild is underway: 10 transfers set to be completed this month
Chelsea’s preparations for the 2026-27 season are well underway and they have already sanctioned the sales of Marc Cucurella and Tyrique George so far this summer.
Meanwhile, Marco Palestra has been confirmed as the first official signing of the Xabi Alonso era, following his arrival from Atalanta for €57 million, and several others are expected to follow suit before Transfer Deadline Day on 1 September.
In addition, deals had already been agreed for Geovany Quenda, Emmanuel Emegha, Dastan Satpaev and Denner ahead of the summer window, and they will soon link up with their new team-mates for Alonso’s first pre-season in charge at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues have no European football to deal with next year and with a relatively light fixture schedule therefore on the horizon, a number of stars are expected to be sold on permanent deals in order to reduce the size of the squad. Alonso also wants to freshen up his team with several eye-catching additions.
Below, FootballTransfers runs through 10 deals that Chelsea could complete before the end of July.
Maxence Lacroix - IN
Maxence Lacroix has been earmarked as one of Chelsea’s top targets for this summer amid the club’s continued pursuit of a suitable central defender to partner Levi Colwill at the heart of defence.
The Blues missed out on Jan Paul van Hecke to Tottenham Hotspur and widespread reports have confirmed they are eager to finalise a deal for Lacroix after the 2026 World Cup, with Como star Jacobo Ramon regarded as a potential alternative.
Pep Chavarria - IN
After selling Cucurella to Real Madrid, Chelsea are set to promote Jorrel Hato to first-choice status at left-back, but they are now keen to sign a back-up option to the Dutchman.
Rayo Vallecano’s Pep Chavarria has been identified as a surprise option and advanced negotiations are ongoing over a deal for the 28-year-old, who has never played outside of Spain.
Valentin Barco - IN
The signing of Valentin Barco is one of the worst kept secrets in football and there appears to be no real reason why Chelsea are yet to formally announce his arrival.
The Argentina international has already confirmed his Strasbourg exit and reports have revealed that he will become a Chelsea player before next season. A deal may be publicly confirmed by the Blues after the end of the World Cup.
Andrey Santos - OUT
Andrey Santos played a back-up role at Chelsea last season and with no European football this term, the west London giants have reached a full agreement to sell him to Manchester United.
He will undergo his medical shortly before becoming a Man Utd player ahead of the 2026-27 season. This could be a deal that comes back to bite Chelsea, although they will turn a huge profit on the Brazil midfielder after agreeing to sell him for €58m.
Filip Jorgensen - OUT
Filip Jorgensen has played second-fiddle to Robert Sanchez throughout his spell at Chelsea and he is keen to leave the club in search of regular game time next season.
The Blues are willing to sanction a permanent sale, with Mike Penders set to return to the club following his loan stint at Strasbourg.
Axel Disasi - OUT
Axel Disasi fell out of favour under Enzo Maresca and his career at Chelsea appears to be all but over following a loan spell at West Ham United last season.
His value has undoubtedly been boosted by an impressive few months in east London and Chelsea are determined to finally offload him before the start of the 2026-27 campaign.
Benoit Badiashile - OUT
Benoit Badiashile showed immense promise following his arrival from Monaco, however his form soon dipped significantly and he hasn’t been a guaranteed starter since the aforementioned Colwill returned from a loan spell at Brighton.
He didn’t play a single Premier League minute from February onwards last season and he was excluded from the matchday squad in Chelsea’s final eight league matches. A sale seems inevitable.
Trevoh Chalobah - OUT
Chelsea currently have nine first-team central defenders on their books and with Lacroix potentially arriving too, it’s clear they need to significantly reduce that number before the start of next season.
Trevoh Chalobah is one of the club’s most sellable assets and it has been widely reported in recent weeks that he will be sold to either Inter Milan or Como, with both clubs vying for his signature and the England international ready to leave Chelsea for Serie A.
Marc Guiu - OUT
Following the arrival of Emegha from Strasbourg, Marc Guiu has fallen further down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and he is expected to leave either on loan or permanently before the start of next season.
The Spaniard joined Chelsea from Barcelona for a measly fee of €6m and the Blues therefore stand to earn a fairly sizable profit if a sale is agreed.
David Datro Fofana - OUT
David Datro Fofana has only played four times for Chelsea and after five loan spells away from the club, a permanent sale is being pursued this summer.
He still has three years remaining on his current contract, and another loan move can’t be ruled out if Chelsea are unable to find a suitor.
In addition, offers will be considered for Enzo Fernandez, Malo Gusto, Alejandro Garnacho and several others, with Chelsea expected to be extremely busy in the transfer market before the start of the 2026-27 campaign.
The Blues have also finalised agreements for academy duo Jesse Derry and Harrison Murray-Campbell to join Sporting CP and KV Kortrijk on loan respectively.
