Manchester United and Arsenal have learned how much it would take to sign Alex Scott this summer, with both clubs in line to battle for the Bournemouth midfielder.

Scott has emerged as a target for a number of sides after an impressive campaign for Bournemouth and the 22-year-old could be prepared to make the next step in his career after narrowly missing out on a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Both Arsenal and United are in the market for a midfielder this summer, although Michael Carrick’s side are believed to be prioritising a move for West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes, while the Gunners may first look to sign an attacking player before addressing other needs.

With West Ham likely to demand close to €100 million for Fernandes amid interest from Tottenham and Real Madrid alongside United, Scott may be considered as a cheaper, alternative target for the Red Devils, with Chelsea also thought to be interested.

According to the Daily Mail, any successful move for Scott would need to be around the £60m (€69.6m) mark – significantly less than the anticipated price tag for Fernandes.

Bournemouth are still hoping to keep hold of Scott and extend his contract, which has two years remaining on it, with no formal approaches having been made as of yet for the England star.

Scott on shortlist as Man Utd and Arsenal set for complicated midfielder pursuit this summer

United have already agreed to sign one midfielder in Ederson, with the Brazil international set to complete a €45m move from Atalanta once his participation in the World Cup finishes.

Fernandes is then United’s ideal target for a second midfielder signing, although Fabrizio Romano confirmed this week that West Ham are hoping for a bidding war after Tottenham intensified their pursuit of the Portuguese star.

Scott is one of many players on United’s shortlist as an alternative, although much could depend on the outgoings at Old Trafford, with Manuel Ugarte among the candidates expected to be sold if an appropriate offer is received for the midfielder.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are stepping up their chase for Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa and a midfielder will only be considered after a deal for an attacking player is sealed.

Like United, Arsenal’s scope for a midfielder could depend on whether the likes of Christian Norgaard are sold this summer, with Sandro Tonali also thought to be a target if the Newcastle star’s move to Tottenham does not progress.
