Football news expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on several major transfer stories ahead of this summer, including the latest on Morgan Rogers, Mateus Fernandes and Andrea Cambiaso.

Dusan Vlahovic latest

Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic is currently set to become a free agent in July and Romano confirmed that a contract extension agreement has not yet been finalised in a transfer round-up video on his YouTube channel.

“What happened today is that Dušan Vlahović had a new meeting with Juventus to discuss his contract situation,” the news expert said. “Vlahović is currently under contract until the summer of 2026. Following this latest meeting, there is still no agreement between the player and the club. At this stage, the situation remains completely open.

“Vlahović could eventually become available as a free agent. The key outcome of the meeting was that no agreement was reached on salary, contract length, or any of the main terms. Despite Juventus attempting to find a solution, there has been no breakthrough so far.”

Romano added: “What happens next is that Vlahović is free to assess his options and consider a new chapter elsewhere. We will have to see whether he finds a new club in the coming weeks and moves as a free agent, or whether he returns to discussions with Juventus later in the window if no better opportunities emerge.”

“The current scenario remains very open. A player of Vlahović's profile becoming available on a free transfer would represent a significant opportunity for many clubs across the market.”

Real Madrid want Riccardo Calafiori

Real Madrid have finalised agreements to sign Denzel Dumfries and Ibrahima Konate this summer, but they also want to secure the signature of Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori.

“Real Madrid are not finished when it comes to strengthening their defence. Their focus remains on both the centre-back and left-back positions,” Romano admitted.

“At left-back, Real Madrid have Álvaro Carreras, while Ferland Mendy is currently injured and has struggled with injuries over recent years. The club's idea is to find a player capable of operating both as a centre-back and a left-back. Riccardo Calafiori fits that profile and is considered an interesting option.

“There have also been reports regarding Joško Gvardiol. He is admired by several clubs, but at the moment he remains a very difficult target because Manchester City view him as a crucial player.

“What I can reveal is that Real Madrid made contact with people close to Calafiori a few weeks ago to gather information about the Italian defender. Calafiori remains a very important player for Arsenal, making any potential deal far from straightforward. Arsenal consider him an important part of their long-term project.”

Bernardo Silva update

Bernardo Silva will officially become a free agent when his Man City contract expires this summer and it’s understood that he is likely to continue his career in La Liga next term.

“Barcelona and Atlético Madrid continue to push for Bernardo Silva,” Romano confirmed. “The player has also received several approaches in recent months from clubs in Turkey, Major League Soccer, Saudi Arabia and Italy. However, Spain remains his preferred destination.

“What I can confirm today, following direct information from his agent Jorge Mendes, is that Bernardo Silva has decided to make a final decision on his future after the World Cup.

“The initial plan was to resolve everything before the tournament began so that he could focus entirely on football with his future already settled. However, with no agreement currently in place, Bernardo Silva has decided to take more time.

“He wants to focus exclusively on football and avoid distractions during the preparation period, friendly matches and the tournament itself.

"Bernardo Silva will now concentrate fully on the World Cup with Portugal. Once the competition is over, he will make a decision regarding his next club. For now, everything has been placed on hold. Discussions may continue behind the scenes, but in terms of a final decision, patience will be required.”

Morgan Rogers set to leave Aston Villa

Morgan Rogers has been linked with an Aston Villa exit for several months and with Arsenal and Chelsea both chasing a deal, Romano has clarified that a departure is likely to take place this summer.

He said: “Aston Villa will find it very difficult to keep Morgan Rogers. The player signed a new contract only a few months ago, but the club are fully aware that there will be significant interest in him.

“The market for wide players has been particularly active in recent weeks, and Rogers is expected to be part of that movement.

“I expect several clubs to be involved in the race for his signature. Arsenal are certainly among them and, from my understanding, there have already been direct contacts with the player's representatives.

“Rogers is definitely on Arsenal's list, but they are not alone. Arsenal must also determine which winger is their priority target among several options being considered this summer.

“Any move would be expensive. Rogers recently signed a new deal, Aston Villa will be playing Champions League football, and the club are very satisfied with the direction of the project.

“Aston Villa are not prepared to allow key players to leave easily. Nevertheless, Morgan Rogers has a strong chance of leaving the club this summer, with Arsenal among the interested parties and several others also monitoring the situation.”

Mateus Fernandes to Man Utd?

Manchester United are desperate to sign at least two new central midfielders during the upcoming transfer window, and Mateus Fernandes is firmly one of their top targets.

“Man Utd continue to work on strengthening their midfield and Matheus Fernandes is one of the players under consideration,” Romano revealed.

“The club have several names on their shortlist because they may sign two midfielders and potentially even a third, depending on departures. Casemiro is expected to leave, Manuel Ugarte could also depart, and Kobbie Mainoo has not yet agreed a new contract. As a result, there is significant movement expected in midfield.

“Matheus Fernandes is certainly appreciated by Man Utd, but they are not alone. Several clubs are interested in the player.

“Arsenal could also consider that profile, while other clubs continue to monitor his situation. West Ham are unlikely to make negotiations easy. Following relegation, they understand the player may need to move on, but they are hoping for multiple offers in order to maximise the transfer fee.

“Man Utd have already completed the signing of Ederson, which gives them a strong foundation in midfield. However, they still want at least one more addition.

“Matheus Fernandes remains a candidate and discussions have taken place in recent weeks. United appreciate the player, but they also want to assess whether other opportunities emerge later in the market.

“As I have mentioned before, Aurélien Tchouaméni is a player they admire, although Real Madrid are currently unwilling to entertain a sale. Transfer situations can change quickly, so there will certainly be further movement in Man Utd's midfield plans.”

Andrea Cambiaso to Chelsea truth

Finally, reports in the Italian media have suggested that Chelsea want to sign Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso this summer, but Romano has poured cold water on such rumours.

“My understanding is that Chelsea are not currently in negotiations for Cambiaso,” he said.

“There are other clubs showing interest. Barcelona, for example, have been monitoring the player for several months.

“Cambiaso could leave Juventus this summer if a suitable offer arrives. However, as things stand, Chelsea are not actively pursuing a deal for the player.”
